Other Tales Interactive

This is a short, casual and rather charming set of four tales, each one different in style and gameplay and taking about 45 minutes in total.

You start with a box containing four items – a small toy lizard, a screwdriver, a seashell and a cameo moth. Each has a story to tell. Just pick one and begin.

If you want to know a little bit about each one, check out the Steam page. I confess I liked not knowing, so I am not going to tell you anything more here.

They can be dreamy, whimsical, fantastical, even mystical. Slightly surreal too, perhaps foreboding, one a tad creepy. Whichever, all four are engaging. Only one has spoken word, two have no words at all, but ambient sound and a soundtrack accompany each one.

Each appealed visually, and they are certainly distinct from each other. The style of each contributed mightily to the tale the particular object was telling.

My favourite involved a sandcastle, a single screen full of tiny fun, but each had their attractions.

It's very straightforward. Just click and maybe drag the hotspots to progress the tale. There might be a little bit of wondering what or where to click next but it’s a casual challenge at best. One tale also has two simple out and out puzzles.

You can return to the box at any time, and on two of the three occasions I did so it saved where I was at in that particular tale. That didn’t happen with the sandcastle, which didn’t really matter given how short the tales are.

I like a lot more challenge in my games, but I thought this was a delightful 45 minute interlude.

I played on:

OS: Windows 10, 64 Bit

Processor: Intel i7-9700K 3.7GHz

RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB DDR4 32GB

Video card: AMD Radeon RX 580 8192MB
