Another older game from 2001 finished-I'm slowly getting some of my dust-gathering games finished before I have to upgrade again and be unable to play them.

Traitors Gate is a point-and-click adventure which involves sneaking into the Tower of London with some copies of the Crown Jewels, placing them into the vaults and taking the real ones.You are special agent "Raven", sent by Pentagon Internal Affairs to catch a thief by placing tracking devices on the fakes. If you are caught they will deny any knowlege of you or the mission. You must not leave any traces or kill anyone.

You have a whole array of gagets to monitor surveilance cameras, scale walls, immobilise guards, survive poison gas,analyse key codes, pick locks,unscrew things,and unlock sewer gates. There is a PDA that explains what all this stuff is for, historical facts about the Tower of London,contains a camera, compass, recieves e-mails from headquarters, ect. Unfortunately this PDA takes up half of the screen all the time so I always felt that I wanted to push it out of the way so I could see more. But no matter-you get used to it after a while.

The other thing is the way to sneak around to all the different locations is underground-through the sewer system,which-you guessed it-is one heck of a maze. A map(which you make yourself or find in the walkthrough) is an absolute must.You will spend much time sloshing and clicking. You will see many many walls made of grey bricks and climb through many manhole covers.

Be warned-this game is not for the technically challenged-I don't usually print out walkthroughs, but had to for this one. I never could have figured out all the gagets and what to use them on-way over my head, not to speak of the many many security codes for many many doors. But it was fun to follow along and be guided and told what to do(once again-thank to the intrepid walkthrough writers!)

Oh, by the way-you have 12 hours in real time to complete your mission-I don't think I could have made it in time on my own.It would have taken me 12 hours to figure out one thing.

All in all, it was an interesting romp through the Tower of London-now I'd like to see the real thing.There is plenty of background information for history buffs available in the game,but not necessary to complete the mission.I liked the music-it added to the suspense at times and was reminiscent of a 60's spy movie or "Mission Impossible".

The game loaded and played with no freezes or crashes on WINXP.Recommended if you like figuring out technical things and fimd it in a bargain bin. yes

Hi bigmamma -- A fine review! I agree with your assessment of the difficulty level.

I played partway through this one years ago and got lost in the sewers. When I finally consulted a walkthrough, I realized that I'd done something wrong way back at the beginning of the game, and unless I basically started the game over, I couldn't get the "good" ending.

I haven't gone back to it since.


The game has a nice premise, and I liked the tower and the "authenticity" of the surroundings.

The walkthru I consulted had a nice map of the sewers-it must have taken hours for that intrepid soul to figure it out.You really need the map in order to get from one building to another and there are also some secret doors which I would never have found in a million years!It would have been nice if the game had a map that the player could find, but alas, you can't have everything smile

I have played that game on Windows XP with no problem, if I run it in compatability mode. It's a great game, and the kind of like where you have to go all over the place and collect things. That map sure came in handy.

I liked this game too. As a result I bought Traitor's Gate 2, but it's still on my "To Play" shelf.
I remember having to shoot in the dark with a sniper rifle, kind of action,but I think it lit up when you were aiming in the right spot, if I could do it anyone could. grin

Not sure what is meant by this - do I have to play the game in 12 consecutive hours without stopping?
Or can I play the game, say, for 1 hour at a time, save and then start again later?

Going to start this game tonight.
I assume that if I don't finish in the 12 hours allocated
I can always go back to a saved game and start over from there rather than have to start the whole game over again.

Yes, that's the way to play it. You make a save, fiddle around until you figure out what to do, then go back to the save and quickly play up to that point, then save again. Then fiddle around again until you figure out the next thing to do. Repeat until finished.

As for the sewer, unless you enjoy mazes, just download a map from somewhere.
