Have you had any experience downloading Spintop games? Is is a safe one?
I've had it kicked off by Norton every time I tried it? and then Norton tells me to restart to remove risks? It was the original supplier of Brunhilda.
I've had this happen before with one other supplier and I'm wondering if it's just Norton being overly cautious?
Any thoughts on this?
Janice hoping we get something nice from BigFish for Christmas

I have downloaded from Spintop many many times. For me it is a good and reputable site.
I kicked Norton into touch years ago!!

Spintop is my first priority after Big Fish. I have had nothing but good luck with them. Another site that I recommend is Alawar.
I got rid of Norton years ago! It's true that it really invades and slows everything down. I have been using Avast. It is free and very reliable.

I haven't really used McAfee much so I don't really know but others have told me that it is very good. But you will have to pay to get it renewed after a year I think.

I'd trust Norton before I'd trust McAfee. I've heard a lot more complaints about McAfee than about Norton -- both about false positives and about false negatives (A false negative is where it determines malware is safe).

I recently installed Norton 360 4.0 in my system and thought I'd try to download a game from the Spintop site. The first thing that happened (with 1 second to go in the download) was that a Windows message popped up: Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. Youmay not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.I thought this might be because I had to be the administrator - which I am - so I guess that's not it. Then a Norton window popped up labled 'File Insight.' When you look at the 'Origin' information it lists the site the game was downloaded from and to the right shows a status of 'Safe' in green as does the Norton Safe Web site - which lists 'Spintop-Media.com' as Safe. So, I don't know if the first message from Windows is the problem and/or the Norton messages - which seem to contradict themselves. I will try to contact Norton (which can be an adventure) and see if I can clear this up. Robert PS - Here's the link to the Norton Safe Web site - here

What's the URL for Spintop? I'd like to have a look see.
I too gave Norton the boot, years ago. When it came time to renew I wanted just virus protection, nothing else. Unfortunately just an antivirus version stopped being an option, so I renewed to Norton's Internet Security. Big mistake, as Norton basically took over our computer. Not something I want any program to do. Ran into a wall with another antivirus program and now use avast!. No complaints so far--(goes to find block of wood).

Yesterday I was unable to download 'Marooned2 - Secrets of the Akoni' due to Norton Anti-Virus. So today I thought I'd try a different game - 'Vacation Quest - The Hawaiian Islands' and that downloaded with no problems with Norton active.
I then temporarily disabled Norton Anti-Virus and was able to download the Marooned2 game I had tried the day before and was able to install and run it - even after I re-enabled Norton.
I realize this isn't an ideal solution but apparantly some files will download and some will not while having Norton Anti-virus active.
If the Spintop site is truly trustworthy I don't see a problem with disabling Norton just until the download for a particular game is complete.
Just my opinion.
I still plan to call Norton when I can and if I come up with anything will post again.

Robert you're not the first who've needed to disable their antivirus software to download, or run, a game. It can be risky, even from a trusted site. But what else can a person do, other than order the disk version?

I did try calling Norton but was on hold for so long I gave up.
I'm not even sure if it would do any good to talk to someone at Norton so, for now, I'm taking a "Norton" break...

I got rid of Norton for the same reasons way back but, a couple of years ago I also got rid of Kaspersky which kept telling me that every file I downloaded from BFG contained a virus!! Like Rozanne I now use Avast anti-virus (free) and I have never had any such problems since. Good luck Janice and hope this helps! Bernie
