Jenny,
I'm not sure but this game is very sluggish. I looked at the Norton but it doesn't seem to be running. How do I check that and disable it?
I just removed something called Registry Mechanic- PC Tools that I somehow installed. In the past, it has run at odd times so maybe that will help. Before I did this I uninstalled Still Life 2 but the game still didn't run any better. I am not sure how to reset my Norton anivirus but I think it runs later in the evening.

Hi, I have the same problem on a real fast desktop computer, but the video card isn't as good as the one on my lap top and the game plays just great on the lap top so, I will try to configure this computer to play the game better.
Thanks Mag P.S. Mag I was able to right click on the Gray Matter Icon, go to properties and bring up the folder, found the configure folder and was able to edit it a bit and now the game is playing just great on this desktop.
Thanks again.
Charllotte

Someone suggested that my virus scan might be affecting it. Norton is set to automatically scan. Maybe I should try to figure out how to change that? Would that make a difference? Should I try to turn it off? Try to turn off the antivirus's real time scanning while you're playing the game. Remember to reactivate the real time scanning when you've finished your playing session.

Gatsbygirl, I have a Dell XPS 8100, Windows Home Premium 64-bit with Intel Core i5 CPU, 2.67 GHZ, 6GB RAM, nVida GeForce GTS 240, 1 GB.
Unfortunately, I am not savvy enough to tell how our two machines compare, but I've had absolutely no problem installing or playing Gray Matter, without any modifications upon installation.
I wish I could help. : (
The answer is....chocolate! Who cares what the question is.....

Mary,
Sounds a lot like my computer. Does it have Windows 7? Can't figure out why it won't play well on my computer. Other games have been playing great!

It's certainly a puzzler. Have you tried it on the lowest resolution (1024x768 I think) - Vertical Sync on/off, Hardware cursor on/off? I'm assuming everything else is set to Low or Off. How about windowed mode? Drivers up to date? Tried it with firewall and virus checker turned off? Tried with just the one core? Uninstall/Reinstall? Did the .Net stuff get installed at the end of the game install? I'm running out of stuff:-)
Your point about changing the settings whilst the game is loaded - I'm not sure some of them would take effect until you restart the game.

Make sure that you have the full drivers installed for the video card and not the ones that windows loads by default. You can go to the website of the graphics card manufacturer and download the newest drivers. Do not use the ones on Microsoft's Window's Update as they sometimes are not full drivers. See link below for ATI Drivers. http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDSupportHub.aspxhttp://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon_win7-64.aspxAlso if using the DVI port I would use the DVI Port that is next to the HDMI Port and not the lower one.

DVI port is what you plug your monitor into. The cable connector looks like ***this***and it plugs into something that looks like ***this*** on your video card.

gats you can switch to XP mode without losing your progress. It's worth a try if all else fails.
