Hello boomers
I just finished Runaway 2 and thought I 'd give you my opinion.I believe it's the best game of 2006 (although I haven't played The Awakened yet)and the funniest in years.Very smart, long funny dialogues and a lot of characters who of course don't lack the vagary of Runaway 1 's characters. The plot starts with Gina and Brian who are now together in Hawai and want to take a trip to Mala islands. That is where the surprises start so I won't reveal anything in case I spoil it for you. The game has some wonderful graphics. Many locations to explore and the opportunity to enjoy both winter and summer. As for the video-sequences they 're real eye candy.I even replayed some parts of the game to watch the videos again..The plot has many twists and it had me hooked to the end which by the way was a bit of a let-down and a treat together however I 'll let you find out why I 'm saying this. Runaway 2 is a point-and-click 3rd person-view adventure game like its predecessor. The puzzles in the game are inventory and dialogue based.Only a couple of safe-opening puzzles exist. You mostly gain clues from the characters you interact with and then try to come up with something by combining items in your inventory or the environment surrounding you.I didn't find the game very difficult although sometimes I was stuck because of the pixel-hunting mainly.(but thanks to gameboomers hints thread I could finally move on).One just needs to get into the game and then things run smoothly. However if you didn't like the first one because of its gaming style I wouldn't recommend this one because it has exactly the same style.Although it's ten times better if we refer to graphics, plot, location, characters and humor. You 'll also meet some characters from Runaway 1.The box contained a manual really well designed and fun to read.I loved the fact that it contained ''instructions'' to people who are novices to the genre. To sum up, a set of unique characters, incredible visuals and graphics, fun to solve puzzles and most importantly a very hooking and twisty plot make a game worth the waiting of 3 years and definetely worth buying! That's all for now I hope I shed some light on what's this game about. And sorry if I'm scratching wounds of those that can't get the game yet.No grudge,eh?
P.S. I know that the structure of the text and the line of what I'm writing are a bit messy but I laways had that problem in English.
Have fun,
Smaro

Just finished the game as well Must agree with adventurelover on most of the things. There is one thing, though, that was driving me crazy all through the game: the extreme simpleness (is that a word? ) of the puzzles. Click Here For A Spoiler Like the time at the begining of the game, where you had to retrive something from a hard - to- reach- place, so all you had to do is click on the item, and Brian just goes "Oh, I can't reach it! I better go and brake of a long stick, and use it to get the thing!" Did the game developers think the gamers suffer from a complete lack of common sence? Just give me a branch to break with a hotspot on it, and I'll be sure find what to do with it! For another example, I spent 2 hours is search of something to use as a slingshot bullet, checking out every pixel on every screen, when all I had to do, is use the slingshot on the hotspot, and he just bends over and picks up a totally inactive rock from the ground! That was just frustrating! Anyway, I just wanted to say, that the puzzles are more suittable for beginning players or the ones, who enjoys thir game flowent, without spending too much time on puzzle solving. Hope I didn't spoil it to much for you. Have fun playing, for it IS a fun game!

Thanks Rina. It's always interesting to see how our members feel about a game. I'm looking forward to starting this one.

Hi adventurelover Well done !! And thanks for giving us a review "that the puzzles are more suittable for beginning players or the ones, who enjoys thir game flowent, without spending too much time on puzzle solving" That won't bother me one bit, as long as the story is good and the interface friendly. Sometimes I NEED a game where I'm not going insane every time I try to get through a puzzle Cheers. Mad

Guess I'm alone here. I didn't care for the game. Especially not for the $40 I paid for the import version. I really enjoyed the first Runaway, so maybe my expectations were too high for this one. Part of the problem was the puzzles. I expected them to improve from the first game, not go the other way. Not that all of them were bad, but there were a few that really put me off. To be more specific, I expected the puzzles to use "Broken Sword type logic" rather than "Monkey Island type logic." For example, there's a puzzle where you have to melt metal using a magnifying glass and sunlight. That type of puzzle might be OK in a gameworld where you can use a monkey as a monkey wrench, but I expected slightly more realism in a game that's often considered to be the spiritual descendent of the Broken Sword series. The magnifying glass puzzle happens early in the game and maybe it should have clued me in to what would come later, but I continued to be surprised by unlikely solutions that were further from real world solutions than what I expected. My other problem with the game was actually worse. I didn't think the characters were nearly as likable as in the first game. I can't explain that without spoilers to give examples I didn't realize how much Gina added to the Runaway series until I had to do without her. You see a little of her in the intro, but then she's unconscious and out of sight for the rest of the game.
Brian is a real #&%$#! in Runaway 2. He cheats on Gina while she is unconscious and on the verge of death. Brian also arranges for a polar bear to rape a scientist. (Yes the scientist is stupid and annoying, but what Brian did is still a bit much for me).
Dean Grassick -- made several times more annoying for me because of numerous crashes I had in that part of the game, which include a long sequence of cut scenes that can't be skipped and no chance to save until the end of them. After seeing this sequence for about the fifth time, I was ready to do unspeakable things to the game DVD. The game was perfectly stable in every other location except the Grassick sequence. Why oh why did it have to crash there, always in a slightly different part of the cut scene sequence.
And then there's whiny Joshua. He was in the first game too, but not nearly as much of him. He really needs a voicebox transplant if they're going to use him again. And then there's this Yet another game that ends in a cliffhanger. Is this a new trend? I think I'm going to start waiting longer on getting games, and if I hear a game ends with a cliffhanger I'm not going to buy it until the next one in the series comes out -- and only then if the second game has a proper ending. Leaving a principal character on the verge of death is not an acceptable ending IMO.

Jenny100, I really liked the game, but I'm sure I came to the game with a different set of expectations than you did. I have not played any of the Broken Sword series and only part of the first Runaway game.

Hi Jenny100 "Yet another game that ends in a cliffhanger .... Leaving a principal character on the verge of death is not an acceptable ending IMO." I heartily agree on that point !! When Simon II ended with a cliffhanger, which I felt was very unfair after I had payed full price for what I thought was going to be a full game, I phoned AdventureSoft to give them a piece of mind And considering there was then a five year wait till the "graphically unfinished, disappointingly action filled, rubbishy" Simon III appeared, I feel I was entirely JUSTIFIED !!!! Ah, yes. In those bygone days, one could actually phone in to a studio and discuss a game with the people who made it .... [Unlike you, however, I did very much enjoy Runaway II, apart from the "NON" ending :(] Cheers. Mad

I agree Mad.. There should of been an ending...If they wanted to make a sequel ..Then they could have after the Fact Gina was rescued... Oh Well....But I did enjoy it Immensely
