Have you ever read Barbara Kingsolver?? Her first one is The Bean Tree.... I really like the way she tells a story.

Thanks, Winfrey, Sparkle I have never read Kingsolver although I have heard of the "The Poisonwood Bible." Will check the library.

I have just finished and much enjoyed the First fifteen lives of Harry August by Claire North, a different twist on time travel. If you like that sort of thing I can also recommend The Time Traveller's Almanac: The Ultimate Treasury of Time Travel Fiction - Brought to You from the Future, a huge and wonderfully varied collection (available on Kindle).
