The description says Includes Steam key and DRM-free download for Windows! That suggests they're not the same thing. The purchase at prominencegame.com also seems to be done through HumbleBundle, which usually gives a choice. Uncle Reg, I guess you could try emailing them through their webpage at http://www.prominencegame.com/contact.htmlAlso if you have an account at Humble Bundle, try logging in and see if the game is there. You might have to add the purchase ID number somewhere (I had to do that for some game, but don't remember the details).

Is the DRM edition from the developers web site Steam free or you still have to play using Steam? The DRM-free version does not require Steam to play. And pre-ordering the game, you get both a Steam key AND the DRM-free version. This was posted in this thread by somebody who, by his signature, appears to be connected to the game developers.

The purchase at prominencegame.com also seems to be done through HumbleBundle, which usually gives a choice. Yes, The email I got came from Humble Bundle, and the link with the Steam key is a Humble Bundle page. Also if you have an account at Humble Bundle, try logging in and see if the game is there. You might have to add the purchase ID number somewhere (I had to do that for some game, but don't remember the details). I have bought several other games directly from the developers site that were delivered through Humble Bundle, and I didn't remember ever having to log in to get them. I couldn't find any record of ever having an account, so I tried logging in and clicking on "Forgot your password?", and I got this reply from Humble Bundle: "You are receiving this email because you attempted to reset your Humble Bundle password. Our records indicate that you have purchased items from us in the past but have not yet created a Humble Bundle account with this email address.
Accounts are an optional feature, but we recommend creating one to easily keep track of your purchases. If you would like to create an account, click the following link"I went back and checked two of those older games, Homesick and Tormentum, and both of the emails still take me to a Humble Bundle page with both a Steam key and a download link, without having to log in.

And neither did I -- until I had to create the account because I didn't get a link to download a certain game by email.

I pre-ordered the game because I wanted the drm free version for Windows. My Humble Bundle page reads the same-just a Steam Key. I sent in a support ticket to the folks at Humble Bundle to inquire about the missing DRM free game. I'll post back here when I hear from them. I did what I never thought I would do-I installed Steam and downloaded the game because I was really looking forward to this game. I have to say it was worth the trouble of installing Steam. It's a true adventure game-a breath of fresh air in our stagnant genre.
If I had to complain about anything, it would be: -transition graphics are terrible -the mouse use/navigation takes a little getting used to but once played for a little while, it becomes less aggravating. -no resolution options. I have no idea what the game is playing at even though I have my monitor set to 1080P. And this hearkens back to my first gripe above.
But if you are on the fence, buy it. I am over 2 hours in and am enjoying it very much.

Hi! I was a beta tester and was curious how others felt about the game, so I happened upon this thread. My understanding is that the DRM file will be separately downloadable through Humble Bundle. The developers have run into a snag, which is causing the delay. From Facebook:Prominence 4 hrs ·
If you pre-ordered and are waiting for the DRM-free download version of Prominence, we're working on it! Our unified Windows install builder is having trouble with the game that we didn't have in earlier iterations. As soon as this is fixed, we'll get the build out and it will appear on your Humble pages. We apologize for the delay!

That's awesome you're enjoying it so! I'm secretly hoping they get enough sales to to bring the transition quality up a notch. It's probably more of an encoder licensing thing than anything (but don't quote me on that). On Steam, someone posted a good suggestion to make the mouse more like an FPS. I believe it was to turn down the "Momentum" setting about two notches. It should be running in your native resolution. Also vsync is useful.

That's exactly the same response that I got by email after posting a query on the Prominence website's Contact page. All is well. Now that I know what's what, I'm happy to wait.

I missed this earlier, but Kevin McGrath is not only connected to the developers, AFAIK he's the sole programmer. The engine is proprietary, which he developed. Prominence is pretty much his and Mike Morrison's project, with some help (possibly sub-contracted) in the music, art and voice acting departments. Here's a 2013 interview with both: http://www.adventuregamers.com/articles/view/25016

Humble reports that the issue should be fixed now. Please try again and let me know how it goes. Clearly you're quicker on the download-draw than I am! Glad it's resolved. Happy adventuring!

I agree. Prominence is one of the best games I've played in a long, long time. You must be playing the Steam version, because the DRM-free version that I'm using doesn't divide it into chapters. In case you didn't know, there are two different endings you can get. You can decide to build a new shuttle, or you can decide to save the ship. Make sure you save your game just before you make the choice, so you can go back and play the other ending. It boggles my mind that, except for this thread, GameBoomers is completely devoid of any discussions about this great game. Everybody that hasn't played this game is missing out on a real winner.

I REALLY wish you could play Mission Critical! I was one who told the PROMINENCE team about that game and how the part of their game reminds me of it. I kept my ME PC, now with no online or Nortons just to play my really old games. AMBER, Mission Critical, The Dig, Midnight Nowhere and Dark Side Of The Moon (games GoG doesn't offer) all play flawlessly on it.
