I'll add a new twist this year and let you name 5 top series that you may want to recommend as well. Please list those separate from the individual but you can post them in the same post.

Please do not edit once you have submitted your list because they will be recorded as they are posted. If you want to add a game and you didn't choose 20 the first time, PM me first to let me know you are doing that and then you can post again. You cannot exceed 20.

I hope to see lots of entries, the list is a wonderful resource for those looking to branch out into casuals or to give you new ideas of games to check out in case you missed them.

We will not be separating the games into categories, so no need to be specific as to the genre.

This is great. Have seen some I never heard of and now will try! My faves are below. Caveat: I like my games long and the puzzles/mini-games difficult. I don't really enjoy HOG, so games I list are light on those scenes and skewed toward adventure.

Not many "Series" entries from me; I would recommend very few Series as a group, because early games often do not measure up. (Many Series get better as they go along.) In the Series I list, ALL games in that Series are well above average.

Is this only for recent games?
I would have expected more votes for Drawn.
I'll have to think about what recent casual games I've enjoyed.

Jenny, I posted "any year" but the more current the better. If you want Drawn on there please add it. You can also add Drawn the series and leave room for individual games.

I think it's more beneficial to users to add some current games in there because it seems like the list doesn't change much otherwise for those looking for new suggestions. You are free to add any game you choose, though.

I know MY individual games list isn't very "current" so it's probably not too helpful.

But I think my my series list is OK

I played Drawn around the time it was released and thought it was okay as an adventure game but far better than most other casuals. In only a few years many casual games have surpassed Drawn so I for one am not surprised that Drawn isn't way up there. It's just not the casual equivalent of, for example, the Gabriel Knight games.

There are NO casual equivalents of the Gabriel Knight games .... In fact, for me, there are no Adventure games out there that can even compare !!

8donight, you can only have 5 series. You named one already, so can you reduce this to 4 please.

i played and liked the drawn games, but found them too short. that is why they aren't on my list.

Drawn is one of few casual games that I actually remember -- one of few I replay. So many casual games are similar to one another, and usually I can't remember much at all about a casual game, even as little as a day after I finish it.

Newer games may have more options, like custom difficulty, but the options don't work 100%. I've yet to see one that truly got rid of the so-called "helpful" (actually annoying) messages blocking my view of the screen, even if the option to disable them is there. Not only do they block the screen, but it's insulting -- like the game is calling you a moron. Imagine exploring a haunted house in real life and having these damb boxes pop up in your face: "Oooo!! You found a corkscrew!!" "You found a pin !!" "You found a peanut !!"

A lot of the once-reliable series have become inconsistent in quality, sometimes due to change in developer. There has not been any gradual improvement for quite a while. For example, I've seen a lot of people saying Mystery Trackers: Four Aces is their favorite of the series, and it's certainly not the most recent -- it's over 3 years old. The most recent House of 1000 Doors game, Evil Inside, was a huge step down from the previous ones.

Also if you buy a Standard edition, you often find it has the same menu as the CE -- only with dead options or ads. For example, where the CE would have brought up a guide, you find clicking on "Guide" causes your web browser to open and display an ad to buy a guide. To me that just looks sloppy -- makes it look like you bought carelessly thrown-together junk, or paid money for some sort of trialware. And then there are the ads for Facebook and Twitter that have invaded the Menu Screens of so many Big Fish games. The only way to avoid that stuff is to buy an older game from before they started doing that.

I loved CHERAI! innovative, and i enjoyed the multi-player aspect.

It's definitely one of my favorites -- and a game that stands out from the rest.
Besides the multiple character aspect with Tara, Maya, and Rahul, the gameworld itself was unique.
I'd have liked to see more games in the series, maybe taking place in between the first "Dark Hills of Cherai" game and "The Regal Sceptre," or possibly a prequel to both.

I would have pared down my list; however, I have been busy and did not see the post reminding me that I was limited to five series. Darn. That's okay. Next time.

Oh boy, more recommendations to follow up. Thanks to this List, I aquired a couple of new games recently that were exceptional. I had given up on Big Fish last year because they bury all their good games under an avalanche of [blip] that you have to filter through, and it became more trouble than it was worth to find a good game. No more. If we can get recommendations from each other, I'm back in the Big Fish fan club again.

I bought Riddles of Fate: Wild Hunt, and just finished it. One of the best in a loooong time. Wow! Huge game, excellent graphics and animation, interesting HOG scenes with innovative touches, and tough mini-games. The Bonus game was worth its name as well. I played it on the hardest setting, and it was a dream date. I have marked this game in my database as a definite Replay! Having said this, there are caveats: There is a LOT of shagging your *** back and forth, a bit more than really was necessary. Most voice acting was scenery-chewing excess. Also, there are those celebratory trumpet blasts whenever you solve a small puzzle. Finally, there were some oddities about it that will throw off many veteran players. If you see something up in a tree and you find a slingshot to knock it down, your first thought is to find some ammunition for the slingshot, right? Maybe not. After looking around for any form of ammo while playing on in other scenes, I finally gave up and looked up a WT. Solution: You don't need ammo. ha ha You just click the empty slingshot on the target object! I'm serious. Still chuckling over that. Another example: At one underground cavern there is a threatening kraken in the water, blocking your progress, and you have to find a way to get rid of it before moving on. I was stumped there for another spell. There was nothing else I could do, so back to the WT. It said to break the stalagmites in the background ( on the other side of the lake, behind the kraken that is blocking your way). Uh huh. Last but not least, you find a torch shell that normally would need a wick or oil or something to light, right? Nope, you just stick the torch handle in the fireplace and voilá, flames. These little things detract somewhat because they stop you in your tracks. Still, they aren't enough to knock this game off the top of my list. Loved it. NB: You WILL have to take extensive notes in order to relocate objects you find along the way and then need later. Thanks so much to whomever put this game on his/her 2015 list. I owe you one!

Like Cherai, Mythic Wonders also has a unique environment and style, set in another culture. The puzzles are related to the culture as well. It is very pretty in a graphic sense. Unfortunately, it is too easy to be much challenge. But if you like a beautiful setting, that might be enough to justify buying it.

Thanks so much for putting together this list! There are SO many casual games and it is daunting to try to find a good one. Lots of mediocre ones out there, and it takes a long time to search through them.

Question: Someone suggested Emerald City Confidential, but I can't find it on Big Fish. Is this the correct, full title? Is it not a BF game?

It's a Wadjet Eye Game but it looks like you can download here on BigFish. Use the full version link towards the bottom.

Emerald City Confidential used to be available from Big Fish (I have it in my Purchase History), but it has since been removed. The game designer is Wadjet Eye Games. I believe you can find it as a download on Amazon.

I believe the game was published by PlayFirst, and when PlayFirst went to mobile they removed their games from Big Fish, unfortunately (they had a lot of good time management games, too).
