Hello Boomers, hope you are all well and having a great Thursday!

Well, I met with the anaesthetist yesterday and things did not go well. My history (heart attack, stroke, diabetes and peripheral artery disease) puts me at extremely high risk and means bowel surgery is no longer an option for me due to complications which she outlined but most of which I can't recall for right now. There was a lot of information to take in and my head is all over the place at the moment. Chances are high that I would not make it through the surgery and if I did I would need nursing home care for the rest of my life.

First step for now is I have to receive a booster of iron intravenously to keep my blood levels up, so an appointment is being made for that. Secondly, I will meet with the consultant surgeon to discuss what treatment options I do have and go over what the anaesthetist told me. I don't know when this will happen but hopefully soon. The polyp is too large to remove via colonoscopy which is why I was to have surgery and the fact that they are almost certain it's an early cancer may mean I will have some chemotherapy. It's all pretty much up in the air for the moment.

Ah, Mary, seems like all you get is bad news. However, one thing I'm getting from your posts is that you have some excellent doctors on your team. I have a feeling that if they decide on some low dose chemo to keep that polyp at bay, you may have a good chance of getting rid of it. Kinda looking at you coming out on top of this one like Ana says!

Awww thank you everyone for your kind words and prayers, they really do help. It's been so hard to remain strong and positive at times and I know but for the love of my hubby and family and the friendship and support from all of you guys things would be very dark indeed.

Draclvr, the doctors have been great all the way from the time I had the amputations till now. Everything has been explained to me in great detail so I understand what's going on and my family have been welcomed and involved in all the decision making.

There's some good news though, I have an appointment tomorrow at the prosthetic facility! It's my first visit and I'm hoping to have a cast taken and see what they have to say. Very exciting! Praying that all goes well.

Hello Boomers, hope all is well with you and you're having a great Monday! All good here!

I had an iron infusion done recently because of a low blood count which went well. Will have my blood checked again in a couple of weeks to see if everything's okay. I hope all of this will stabilise the numbers.

Had a meeting with the bowel surgeon again but we're no further forward regarding treatment. He would like to do another colonoscopy to see if the polyp can be removed using the scope but there is a high risk of perforation due to the placement and shape of the polyp. The only other option would be to do nothing for now but keep a check on things by means of regular colonoscopies. He sent me home to think things over and I'm to see him again beginning of August.

Further good news...I've been accepted by the prosthetic facility! My stumps have healed well and are in good shape but I just need to have some intensive physio first to build up hips and thighs. Hoping to be walking by the end of the year!
