This thread is slipping away.

Reenie, what are you playing now that you're back up and running with Big Fish?

Marian, I am still playing Black Swan. I wish I could say I like it because it does look good and there is a lot to do. Sort of too much though. Every time I find an item, it is for something future, not for something I already am trying to do. And almost every item is one of two or three or whatever.

I am finding the interactive HO scenes quite hard and even resorted to using a hint today. These are the ones where you find a pictured item and use it on something else. There are also regular HO scenes.

Some spots/items are very picky as to where you click.

There was a place I needed to dig and it said that I needed to find something to dig with. Then it said I needed to find a trowel. Well, I had a trowel in my inventory but when I tried to use it, it said that it did not fit. First thought of course, is glitch. But, sometimes in the game you have to see or hear or do something before something will work. This was not the case for this particular issue though. Instead, I had to find a cake knife that looked exactly like the trowel and IT worked for the digging.

One puzzle was playing a tune on a piano which got to be pretty long, trying to track which keys. One puzzle was a pipe slider puzzle, which showed a picture of the solution but was still a slider.

I'm not sure I would suggest for you to buy it.

Thanks so much for the overview of Black Swan, oldbroad. It's always good to know the pros as well as the cons.

I just finished the Labyrinths of the World: Hearts of the Planet CE. If you enjoy Domini games, you will appreciate this one: lots of puzzles/mini-games, not too many hidden object scenes (and the ones there are are somewhat more creative than the usual), a long game and an equally long bonus chapter. I liked it.

I've just run into a rather hard slider type puzzle. There are 3 rows and 4 columns of squares. There's a knob on top that you move to whichever column you want and a knob on the left for whichever row you want. There is a crank on the right that you pull down to move the selected row and column. So, you get one row right but it gets messed up while trying to get the next row. I'm going to need time to figure this one out. I've not seen this particular puzzle type before.

woot woot Somehow, I got it! More luck than skill!! joy2

Thanks to Reenie's comments, I am giving Legendary Tales: Stolen Life a try. It looks like a keeper!

Tally Ho, I think all of Five BN's games are top notch; they haven't disappointed me yet.

Oldbroad, good for you! wave

Yes. With some games I do too, Marian.

I think all brains aren't wired in the same way as some game developers' grin

I am seriously hooked on the rather unusual Baba is You.

I hesitate to call it a casual game, but It is certainly great "brain training" and requires considerable lateral thinking: it can be played in small bites, but is all too easy to waste hours on!

I have also just enjoyed Creaks, the latest from Amanita Design, and prior to that Bring You Home and My Brother Rabbit: nothing too challenging or intellectual, but good fun.

Happy gaming! catrub

So, I guess I'm done with Black Swan. Can't finish it. Last night I was stuck in a slider and was looking for information but mostly all I found was that the game had a lot of glitches. This is a CE version but there is no guide. Tonight I skipped the puzzle and then there was another puzzle I skipped. Skipping puzzles really shows my frustration. Then the glitches and crashes started. My last attempt had me using CTL/ALT/DEL to get to the task manager to close the game.

I watched the last two of fifteen videos somebody did and that person was not able to finish the game though either due to crashing and losing inventory so I could not even see the end. Also, the person was getting frustrated and skipping stuff so I was missing that anyway.

I had put in more than 11 hours. Kind of annoying! Oh well. On to the next one.

Well, that is super annoying. I do remember reading that the game had some glitches for some players. And eleven hours is a lot of time put in. What a shame.

Yes, it really is a long game and no technical problems until it got towards the end. Not the best gameplay or voice acting or puzzles, but still a shame.

Did you see this on Steam?

Apparently the game has a lot of issues. Really poor programming in this instance - it would appear that in this part if you don't do things in the order the developer expects you to, the game crashes.

I don't know if I saw that particular post but Steam is where I was looking. If there was a guide I would have started using it at the end to finish up the game but I could not find a guide anywhere. I never made it as far as putting items in that bowl, though I did see the bowl. There were other problems before that. Mine was in a interactive hog scene. I may fire up the game today just to see what happens. Not sure yet.

This is probably of no use as your problem is glitches, but I found a written walkthrough here.

Oh thanks Marian. I guess I saw that when I Googled but Firefox Ad Blocker blocked me from going there and I let it. I did take a look at it just now. If I am able to get back in the game (and if I want to) I will probably use the walkthrough to get me to the end. I'm pretty sure it will help fend off the glitches by doing everything in exactly the "right" order.

That's not necessarily an ad blocker blocking that gamehouse site.
It could be a blocker that's built into Firefox itself

I just started the latest (?) Labyrinths of the World game, Hearts of the Planet. I have tried out close to a dozen in that series and enjoyed half of them (Looking at my Notes, I bailed on the demo for a few of the games). I have several marked for eventual Replay, but my comments on the rest have been variable: "OK, but cartoony . . . cliché-ridden . . . hokey . . . too much purple fog." So, the series is uneven.

I'm sorry to say that this game is not one of the best. It has a thin plot, unsympathetic protagonists that you have no chance to get to know, somewhat ridiculous predicaments and solutions, very cartoonish and over-saturated artwork, cardboard heroes and villains, people who are at death's door one second and fully recovered the next, and then there is every color of fog and smoke. I wish I had played the Demo, to see what the game was like, but I had liked a few of the games in the series so I bought it outright. "Lesson Learned."
