I will have to give those a try. I tend to avoid "young adult" but I do enjoy several young adult series. ventured, nothing gained! I looked up Two of Swords and it looks interesting. I just started Fatemarked by David Estes. I went to spend my Audible credit and noticed his Kingfall and started investigating. Then discovered I could get them all for free on Kindle Unlimited, so am giving it a try.

I finished the Baer Creighton book last night! It definitely did not disappoint! I'm reading the first one right now. It took me a while to get into the cadence of his voice, but now I'm really enjoying it. Kindle had a bundle of the first 4 books for only a few dollars, so I grabbed it.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

hagatha, I just ordered book one of The Two Swords, The Blacktongue Thief and The Wisdom of Crowds.
It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

Various ideas above which I will have to check out, but I am currently immersed in the Joona Linna series of Swedish detective stories by Lars Kepler (actually a team of two authors apparently) - quite a lot of violent bloodshed, but satisfyingly complex and intriguing characters and plot lines: I am only on the second of them, having bought the first two together as a Kindle deal after hearing about and buying (but not yet reading) book 7, Lazarus - on the basis of an Amazon sales pitch, naturally

Lex, I just got the first volume in that series on your recommendation, and in the process also picked up the first volume in Jo Nesbo's series.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I really enjoyed the Jo Nesbo books about Harry Hole, excellently translated, a few years ago (probably best read in order), but was less taken with a couple of more recent stand alone books by him. I have just finished the second Joona Linna book which continued to gather momentum throughout and has an absolute monster of a bad guy, making Hannibal Lecter seem fairly benign: very impressive!

If I like the first one, I'll grab the second, too. It sounds...dark.

I'm also a book addict, pkstracy. I have a basement full of books and my Kindle has hundreds of novels on it, many of which I haven't read yet (Kindle makes buying books a bit TOO easy, though).
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I finished the Fatemarked series just in time for the release of the 17th Inspector Gamache book. I started it last night, and like the others, it's so good. I'm listening to The First Law while I do chores, etc (whenever it is quiet enough)

I am having a rare change from my usual diet of escapist fiction, currently reading a couple of books by Horatio Clare who is mainly a lyrical travel writer I came across, A Single Swallow (following the migration from South Africa to Britain) and the recently published Heavy Light (tracing his own descent into mental illness and subsequent remission/recovery). https://horatioclarewriter.comI am also looking at Hans Rosling's interesting examination of how wrongly virtually everyone sees the world because of a mistaken mindset and ignorance of the true facts/statistics - Factfulness (very readable). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hw0qTj2tfqMSo far my wife and I are both resisting Amazon's attempts to persuade us to start an Audible subscription...

I just finished To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini, who wrote the excellent Inheritance fantasy series (Eragon, etc). This is his first science fiction novel, and it's an excellent one. The main character is a xenobiologist who helps to determine if a planet or moon is safe to colonize. As she and her teammates are wrapping up their latest investigation, she decides to check out an unusual formation and has an encounter that will change her and inhabited space in profound ways. I give this one 5 out of 5 stars.
Sorry, Santa! There were too many options.

Oh, boy, another book for my list, LadyKestrel. I haven't read much Christopher Paolini, but what I have read, I liked a lot.

I finished Gamache and am impatiently waiting for another one. Then I read A Study in Scarlet Women (the first Charlotte Holmes mystery). Slow starter for me but I ended up enjoying it very much. Now I need bookbub to put the 2nd one on sale So last night I started The Firemane Saga by Raymond Feist. First book is King of Ashes. I bought it last year but I forgot I had it. Must have been reading a different series at the time. Had a heck of a time getting it to download to my kindle, but between Amazon and I, we triumphed. I have enjoyed everything I've ever read by Feist, and indeed, I'm loving this one too. I finished listening to the The Blade Itself (first book in the First Law series) this morning while at the park. I would love to read as well as listen as that is faster, but the reader on the audible book is so good, that I'm just going to listen. Started the 2nd one (Until They Are Hanged) this morning.

looney4labs, I may be wrong, but Louise Penny seems to have another book that came out on August 24. The title is "The Madness of Crowds". Maybe you could check to be sure about this. Thanks and a good day to you.

Thanks, Chief, that is the one I just finished. I pre-ordered it and read it as soon as I got it. The timing was great, and the book was excellent.

looney,
I loved the First Law trilogy. There is also a stand alone book in the same universe called Best Served Cold that is excellent.
It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

Space Quest Fan, I was very on the fence about this one but have landed squarely on the side of "This is a great series." I hope it continues so. Thanks for the tip.

I just started reading the non fiction book called Butcher, Baker by Walter Gilmour. I have the DVD called The Frozen Ground. After I watched the movie, I wondered how God could make such a being. It's a different read from my usual horror & thrillers.
