Hi all.
More fog, pea-soup fog.
It muffles all sound and it's very quiet here now, which gives me a chance to really listen to the "improved" heat pump, which they worked on yesterday. It's definitely better. I can still hear it -- it is a pump, after all -- but it's far less industrial-sounding and I think we can live with it. They will be back tomorrow to reduce the vibration from the fan, which is in the furnace room rght below the master bedroom, and that will really hlep. It will never be possible to sleep in the mater bedroom with the pump turned on, but the old furnace was also very loud, so there's no real difference there.
All of this means we can keep the pump and have our air-conditioning for next summer's heat waves.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

They had to wait for a compressor, but then the new compressor made no difference.
There's still one 15-20 minutes cycle that creates a very loud buzzing noise -- I think it's the defrost cycle. I can only hear it in the bedroom and master bathroom, and I think they have a plan for that, too. It's never going to be perfect, but I don't hang around in my master bedroom and bathroom all day, either, and as I said, the furnace was so loud I couldn't be in the bedroom when it was on, either. It might be an issue when I eventually sell this place, but by then presumably the pump will be old enough that replacing it with something else would be necessary anyway.
The truth is that heat pumps aren't supposed to go near bedrooms, and one of the company owners admitted that to us. That would have been part of our claim against the company had we decided to dig in our heels.
I think I can live with what we have now, though.

That's fairly good news for you hagatha. My furnace room is just below my bedroom also so I hear a good bit of noise but I'm very used to it and don't usually notice it anymore. I was saddened a bit today to read that the Mars-Wrigley Candy Factory a half mile from my house will be closing down within the next two years. It's been there almost 100 years. Hope you can stay warm connie!

Connie, I just read something about it "raining iguanas" in Florida! At 40° they become immobile and fall out of the trees, but to leave them alone because they are not dead!

Good Morning everyone. Ana so good to see you continue to get better. Keeping you in my prayers. Hagatha hope your heat pump noise gets fixed to your satisfaction. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready and waiting for everyone. We are expecting a snow storm here on Saturday ...could get a foot or more of snow... gusty winds and drifting could be a problem. Hope you all have a get day. Gerry

KSisister, a foot of snow! That's quite the dump.
We're still in a huge blanket of fog. It extends down past Victoria, half way across Vancouver Island, and well into the inland, north of Vancouver, plus Vancouver itself is also in fog.
We've never had raining iguanas, but sometimes in Ontario in breeding season a smaller highway might literally be covered in a river of frogs, and unfortunately, you either had to go back the long way, (which could be a very, very long way) or squish them.

Good Morning everyone. It started snowing here last night and is expected to last all day and into the evening. Bitter cold so the snow is light and fluffy...but it is going to get windy causing drifting and wind chills...burrrr. We have a gas fireplace so Bill and I will stay warm by the fire....plan on starting a new puzzle and catching up on my reading. I've put the coffee, tea and hot chocolate on to go with Connie's danish. Connie how did your birthday party for Ellen go? Ana I hope you continue to feel better. Hagatha how long does the fog last? Are you near the water? Wishing everyone a relaxing Saturday. Enjoy! Gerry

A good week-end to to you all. It is cool indeed: 2F or minus 16C and with winds in the big Montréal region. We will stay inside for sure. Take care.

Our fog is slowly lifting and we're back to the usual warmish, grey sogginess that is our winter.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Hello Friends,
Unless it's over 25 deg and/or no ice/snow on the ground, I stay home. So grateful I can do that now. I shudder to remember the days when going to work meant trudging my way from parking lot to building. The lot is at the bottom of a small hill. The slight tilt of the walkway isn't bad unless, of course, there is ice, heavy wind and/or using walker or cane to get around. Amazes me to think how I pushed myself to get to work in those conditions. Car now stays in garage. Only time I bring it out is to put out garbage/recycle bins, then back into the garage it goes. I really try to not have my car out when it snows, just too much of a pain. I just have to put salt on the walkway to my home since it gets very little if any sun and most dangerous area this time of year.
Got a call this morning from the play care place where my dog is now living. No one has come forth to adopt him to give him a regular home, but they're still looking. Manager assured me says, if nothing else happens, he'll bring him to his own house. He also informed me that, after a month there, Huey is thriving! He's gained wait; is no longer skeletal and is enjoying himself. That doesn't really jive with what the vet told me. But, doesn't really matter. I'm a little jealous, but thrilled he's happy and ok. Manager said he also recently took in another dog from a customer whose having health issues. So grateful they are there.
Take care everyone. Stay warm and healthy!
Life's a puzzle; one piece at a time.
