I entirely agree with you LadyK, a great read: she has written some other quite interesting books, but nothing that seems to be on a par with this one or has tempted me beyond the free Kindle sample. SQF I was quite intrigued by the free sample of The Hacienda, but not enough to buy it at this stage because I already have a ridiculously huge number of books waiting on my Kindle (some of my choosing and some recommended by my wife Linda which I can read free of charge through linking our accounts). Her latest find, which now has me hooked is Carrie Magillen https://www.amazon.com/Carrie-Magil...srch_lnk_1&qid=1653039972&sr=8-1 (thrillers with a psychologist/dream therapist as protagonist)

I've been reading Dorothy Sayers and also found an Agatha Christie that I don't remember reading before, so enjoying a trip to the past.

That's a good one, Drac!
I'm almost at the end of Paul Auster's 4321 and am very anxious to see how he resolves everything. More to come when I finish it.

I've just finished the Outlander series of books by Diana Gabaldon. First one came out around 30 years ago and the latest one came out in November last year. There's 9 in the series so far and a 10th is being written at this time. A really enjoyable read if you're into time travel. I was late to the series, just discovered it two years ago and downloaded them all to my Kindle!

I am enjoying the kindle sample of Paul Auster's book mentioned by LadyK, so may get it although I usually look for more action! I must have a look at Outlander, as I enjoy time travel yarns.

I second the recommendation of Louise Penney's series on the Canadian detective, Gamache. Loved ALL of those, and so did my husband (his taste in books usually hovers around WWII history). I also like Val McDermid's series on English detectives and Peter Robinson's stories based on DCI Banks (made into a television series). None of these writers wallows in gore, hides pertinent clues or goes for the salacious. Just good mysteries that you can try to solve as you read along. That's my fiction reading.
For non-fiction, I favor books about astronomy, archaeology, anthropology and various other sciences (I've read a ton of physics, evolution, volcano and plate tectonics, and astrophysics by the dozen). I always have at least two books going at once. One a novel and the other something like the big art book I'm into now, "Panorama of the Renaissance, edited by Margaret Aston.

Soot, I loved the Murderbot series.
I'm not doing much reading these days. I don't have the concentration.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I like to read history books, biography's and autobiography's. I recently read the biography "John Wayne, American" by Randy Roberts and James Olsen. A very good book I think, and objective too! Rob

Paul Auster's 4321 looked a bit daunting at first because there is very little white space in the 866 pages of prose, but it didn't matter at all once I got into it. The author introduces the protagonist as a little boy, and then, based on certain key events in the boy's life, creates alternate and very believable realities for him and his family. I enjoyed the book tremendously, not only because of the excellent writing, but because the stories are set in the part of New Jersey where I went to college and in the same time period.

I won a contest on YouTube and received the prize of a hardcover copy of Dean Koontz's new book, The Big Dark Sky. Will be starting that pretty soon. My last finished book was If It Bleeds, a collection of four novellas by Stephen King. And happy to see you joining in on the conversation, Rob.

Rob, have you read Louis L'Amour's autobiography? Marian, I will be interested to hear what you think of the latest from Dean Koontz: I thought that some of his recent work had rather gone off the boil.

I have that book by Koontz and also Stephen King's new one, Fairy Tale, coming this week. Right now I'm reading Hide by Kiersten White. So far I think it'll make a good B+ horror movie, but it all depends on how it ends.

I'm reading King of Shadows, it's the 8th. book in the Matthew Corbett series by Robert McCammon. They are historical thrillers starting in year 1699 to 1704.
