Tourist season hasn't started yet and everything is so very quiet around here, no tour boats and only the occasional plane, mostly ancient Beaver float planes. The only thing I can hear at the moment is the cat fountain and the fan on my computer -- and the cat flap onto the balcony, which can be very flappy indeed now that the weather has improved. Our neighbourhood has also benefitted from the recent closure of a nearby electric power plant, which could be very noisy in the summer, at times. It's no longer needed beause we have a brand-new hydro plant, built underground for earthquake stability. They took out the old penstocks a couple of years ago and have replanted the area where they stood. BC Hydro ponied up for some new wheel-chair accessible trails in the area and a suspension bridge over the falls, so it was a real win for our community. Dude has finally understood that he is part of the family and for the first time we were treated to his company on the couch with us while watched TV yesterday. He's also finally sleeping on a bed during the day. He's never dared do those things before, I guess thinking that Willow wouldn't like it. But now that they are really pals he's relaxed quite a bit. THis will be a lazy day for us, apart from a trip to the Post Office to pick up a mysterious package that John is being very coy about.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

You are quite right about the backstretcher soot: amongst other things it means that if I fall asleep on the settee in front of the TV my back remains well supported even if I get a crick in my neck...! Great to have some more Dude news from hagatha

That's a very English-sounding afternoon tea you have going there, soot! Our big excitement today was the monthly trip to the dump. Our garage gets so cluttered with plastic containers and boxes that we don't have room in the recyclables bin. There are often hundreds of Bald Eagles at the dump flying around and pecking away at garbage.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

We're in the midst of a maassive rain storm, complete with heavy mist on the water. Soon the lighthouse forghorn wil start up.
I have exactly one errand today, which is picking up my standard order of jelly doughnuts from our local Thirfty's. The S.U. has decided that jelly doughnuts are an essential part of a healthy diet, and so I get him half a dozen of them three times a week, which the bakery staff find very amusing for some reason. I guess they think I'm the one eating them.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

We had blowing snow earlier for just a couple of minutes! Just a brief reminder that Spring can be a fickle friend!

I REALLY need to start cleaning out all my perennial beds, but the task is daunting and it's still quite cold out there - only 39°F! Tomorrow is supposed to start warming up. Maybe it will warm up this afternoon and I'll start tackling it.

I have some bulbs to plant on our second floor balconies. We've given up on the main flower beds. The deer eat everything I plant, even some of the allegedly deer-proof plants.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

We live in the middle of the woods, so deer are everywhere. But we have dogs, so the deer don't usually come up around the house. They do occasionally get into the vegetable gardens, but we use a water spray called the "Scarecrow" that hooks up to your hose. It uses a 9-volt battery and a motion detector to shoot a burst of water and scares away anything in it's path.
