Blech! Three more inches of rain last night. JUST STOP!!! My mulch young man has rescheduled for Saturday. We couldn't get the big tractor in the yard to move mulch around anyway. Grrr...!!!
I'll just sit here and drink my coffee and do my daily Wordle.

Young man here laying down mulch for me. I'm excited to get it done! We've had around 5" of rain here the last couple of days, so he is having to fill a wheelbarrow from our big trailer and walk it around the yard to all the beds. Which means a day off for ME! Will be having a video chat with our German family at noon. Guenter and Petra are usually here for a month every summer, but haven't been able to come for 2 years because of COVID. They have flights for this summer, but Guenter is having some health issues so they are not sure if they will be able to make it this year too.

Hey hagatha, where were the whales????
My husband and I went to the Nanaimo Model Train Show last weekend, our friends always seem to see whales from the ferry, I had my eyes glued to the water all the way, coming and going, but as normal for me, not a whale in sight!!!
Stayed on the Island for nearly a week checking out inlets and sea views, I think the whales were hiding from us....
What a wonderful place you live in for the wild life and views, we saw lots of deer, we don't need to see bears, one walks through our front garden every few days or so!

It's nice to be here, that is back at the old computer, no matter how nice it is to get away for a while, it's even better to return home.

Copper, we live right on the water, so our living room looks out into an area where we potentially see anything going north up the Passage, including whales and cruise ships. You can see Orca almost anywhere up the coast, but it's a matter of luck for most people and they can be hard to spot unless you know what to look for -- or the whale pops up close by. Often you'll hear a whale before you see it, especially in the case of Humpbacks.
The Humpbacks come back in May, and we see them very frequently in the waters between Quadra Island, Cortez Island, nd Mittlenatch Island. There must be a good feeding ground there because we've often seen mothers and small calves in that area -- small meaning the size of a school bus.
Mostly what we see in these waters are the Transient pods, which are mammal-eaters that are more nomadic than the Resident pods. The Transients have a healthier population because they aren't dependent on salmon stock for food.
Basically unless you live in the area you might not see a whale. But there are many excellent whale watching tours in the mid-Island area, so if your heart is set on whales, just book yourself in. It's absolutely worth it.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I have been on two whale watching tours, one from Victoria many years ago now, and one from Maui, both were wonderful with lots of whales popping up.
It's just that my friends are always going to Vancouver Island by ferry and appear to see whales every time, I've never been that lucky.
I agree it's absolutely worth going on a tour, but I still envy you being able to look out of your living room window at such a wonderful view.
