Thanks Drac: all good with our cat so far, and looks to have been what is termed a vestibular system problem not unlike vertigo in a human (aka vestibular neuritis), so with any luck eardrums will see it off completely and prevent a return. Having had a vertigo attack out of the blue and for the first time a few months ago, I can fully identify with the sense of complete disorientation and nausea she must have suffered at the outset! I had a look at the Longmeadow website: looks like a worthwhile and fun place to help out, even if you have drawn the short straw with a hard bench as wagon driver... What a horrendous bit of weather leading to that interstate pile up - it even made the news in UK.

Superstrong coffee for me for sure, Gerry. I woke up very early with my brain buzzing with all the things I have to do this week.
First up is my donation rounds, today to the SPCA with some cat food and three extraneous cat carriers, then up to the dump with boxes and bits and pieces of metal and glass jars. After that it's back home to plant some Hellebores in pots (the only thing deer don't eat, apparently). My garage is actually starting to look tidy!
More and more I realize that although I will miss my incredible, once-in-a-lifetime view, I have to get out of this town. There is nothing for me to do except hiking, and I can do that anywhere on the Island. Now with my neighbours making me uncomfortable, it's time to go.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Good Morning everyone! As always super strong coffee, extra strong tea and hot chocolate await you all. Hagatha I am so impressed in how much purging you have accomplished! I need to start that process...just don't know where to begin...there is so much to "sort out". Lex glad to hear your cat is doing well. Oldbroad a trip down memory lane...the good old days...how time has changed them all! Enjoy your day! Gerry

Whilst I have occasionally been tempted to revisit old haunts, I tend towards the attitude "don't look back, something might be gaining on you...!" (a quote attributed to Satchel Paige, I note) Hagatha, sounds like you are in the right mindset for a move, and gaining momentum.

Another blessed sunny day with only a breeze! My Longmeadow tour was cancelled, so I have the whole day to myself! I finally conquered the weeds yesterday and my young man started laying down mulch. He worked for about 3 hours and hopes to come back and finish on Saturday.
Hagatha, I'm sure it seems daunting, but from where we sit, it looks like your slow and steady progress has really been quite amazing! Especially since you are doing it all yourself.
Hmmm... shall I start working on resetting that stone retaining wall? Maybe power wash my stepping stones? SO nice to have the whole day! But some of Gerry's strong coffee first.
Have a wonderful Thursday, Gameboomers!

Well, darn. The rain predicted for last night and today didn't materialize. It is SO dry here. So, I guess after I get some of Gerry/s double dark brew, I'll head out and start watering. Then I'll work on resetting another short stone retaining edger. Many years ago, I collected all these stone from local creeks every time I drove over one! I had a rather large "library" of stones when I need them!
But for now, it's Gerry's coffee and my daily Wordle.
Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Dark coffee and then...nothing at all. I simply cannot get myself off the couch.
Hagatha, I'm sure it seems daunting, but from where we sit, it looks like your slow and steady progress has really been quite amazing! Especially since you are doing it all yourself.
Draclvr, I am trying to keep up my momentum but I have two small but important jobs that I simply cannot get done because I can't find the tradespeople. I have called three electricians and none of them have bothered to call me back. It's truly disheartening. An acquaintance down the street lives in squalor because when her husband died suddenly 13 years ago she didn't ever recover enough to sort out her life. Her house is indescribably filthy and she is a hoarder. The place is horrible. My friend down the road and I have tried to get her to just do 15 minutes a day of sorting and getting rid of things, one box a day, but she just can't do it. And she refuses to get any kind of therapy. I cannot end up like that, weighed down with depression and inertia. If I stop, I might not get going again, so I have to keep moving.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Hello Boomers, it's been a while! I hope you are all well and life is kind to you.
I've been meaning to visit with you all for a while now but haven't been in a good place mentally. It seems that every time I get up, something else happens to knock me back again. Since the start of the year, life has been very challenging to say the least. There's been no further improvement in hubby's condition, he's virtually unable to walk now. As this is due to the chemotherapy destroying the nerves, it's not something physio could help. His general health has declined as well but he still insists on doing what he can to make sure I'm okay.
The sister I asked prayers for earlier in the year lost her partner to cancer just weeks after diagnosis and not long after she was discharged from hospital. He had been her carer for years. Unfortunately, her way of dealing with that was to hit the bottle hard, drinking herself into oblivion. She had received treatment for drug addiction and alcoholism in the past and her youngest son was born with foetal alcohol syndrome. My other two sisters and I are at our wits end worrying about her. If we try to intervene in any way, we are told to mind our own business. She also suffers from epilepsy and the worry is she could have a seizure while drunk. It would be all too easy to just let her get on with it but she is our baby sister.
Our elder son and his wife and their son had a really bad bout of covid which took around eight weeks to recover from. All have been vaccinated yet the effects of covid on all of them were horrendous. There are so many different strains now. Glad to say they have all recovered now and I hope that's it for them. That was our son's second bout.
Finally, heartbroken to share the news that our grandson Adam, our daughter Diana's youngest (23), has been diagnosed with cancer for which he has already had surgery. He also has loads of swollen lymph nodes all over his body with a group sitting close to his spine. He will have a meeting with the oncologist next Tuesday to discuss the findings of a CT scan to determine whether or not he will need chemo or radiotherapy. Could you please keep him in your prayers, guys?
I really don't mean to sound like a moaning minnie, but it's so good to have somewhere like GameBoomers to come to. I never forget the love and support I've received from you all over the years.
Take care of yourselves!
Much love,
Mary xxxxxx

Mary, this is just so overwhelming. I hope you ALWAYS feel free to come here to "unload." That is a lot to bear. Large hugs...
Hagatha, allowing depression and inertia to weigh you down to the point of letting your home become an expression of it is indeed just not an option. The two can start feeding each other. After I lost my 2nd husband to cancer and my first husband - we were divorced, but still the best of friends - to a heart attack in less than nine months, I spiraled down into that hole too. It was a long, hard struggle, but I pulled myself out of that hole and got to work on both myself and my house. Large hugs to you too...

Mary, I am really sorry to hear of all your family troubles and will hold you in positive thoughts. Hagatha, my wife Linda regularly binges on salted caramel icecream, so I can identify with the sentiment! And something to make you smile https://m.facebook.com/story.php?st...6HNN5MDBzGGjTQ9VnD1aDtl&id=577056576 Wall to wall pomp and ceremony today with the Coronation, so I will be glad to escape to the garden while Linda enjoys the military parades and criticises the female attire...!
