Back in a sweatshirt today! Cool and rainy - perfect day to do some work for Gameboomers after I get home from a dental appointment.

Good morning everyone; the sky here is a yellow brown haze because of all the wild fires in Alberta, as soon as you step out of the house your eyes start to water & nose starts to burn. We really need a few days of a solid down pour.

judith, we're starting to see smoke haze from a couple of fires north of us. The entire city of Fort St. John is under evacuation alert, too.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Our sun was bright red with an orange haze around it in Chicago from the wildfires. I had no idea they were going!

I didn't know about them either. Hope this isn't a harbinger for the summer...

Same here, Fogfighter! Black, no sugar, no cream.
Connie, that sounds like a lot of fun! Follow-up appointment at the Pain Management Clinic for my back this morning. Going to visit the local nursery afterwards which is always a dangerous proposition! Who knows what will strike my fancy besides the Maiden Grass and Astilbes I will be looking for! Sunny and 80 degrees, so will be working outside the rest of the day.

Connie, I escaped with only 4 beautiful red astilbes and a pink muhly grass. As I walked around, it could have been MUCH worse! I'm pretty excited about this grass and can't wait for it to get it's pretty pink plumes this fall. I'm planting it in the middle of a rather large bed that is filled with daylilies - about 35 of them!
Hubby went fishing, so I have the day all to myself! Sitting here listening to the dozens of hummingbirds outside my window and the beautiful songs of a summer tanager and a meadowlark. Nice start to the day.

Good morning; I'm so jealous Draclvr, listening to hummingbirds, tanagers & meadowlark. All I hear outside my living window is buses & cars starting & stoping at the four way stop at the corner, the sounds of a busy city.

Judith, living in the country does have its benefits! I will certainly miss being right on the edge of wilderness, though on a busy morning the tugboats and old Beaver floatplanes can be pretty noisy. On the other hand, the Parksville/Qualicum/Nanoose Bay area I'm probably moving to is not exactly a bustling hive of activity, either. I've been watching a couple of porpoise this morning, slowly swimming north. I've seen a couple of Humpbacks this year but most of them now go to the other side of Quadra Island, where it's much safer, since large vessels don't go through there. Interestingly, they have learned that over the years. We used to see them almost daily from our house. Now the sightings are far more rare.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

It's been very warm this week. I'm so glad I have my heat pump. I came up the stairs this evening and found Dude and Willow crashed out less than a foot away from each other. They're reasonably friendly most of the time, but that's the first time I've seen them comfortable enough to sleep side by side so closely. Or should I say, it's the first time I've seen Dude willing to crash so close to his evil, sneaky, ambushing, tail-sniffing sister. I thought I was getting close to the end of the house preparation but then I had a look at the garage and realized I have many miles to go. It is truly filthy. I got half of it cleaned today, more or less. In a way I'm in no rush as I'm waiting for the glass railings for my upper balcony anyway, and all of the lovely houses I wanted to see are all sold now anyway. I am going to look at a couple of places next week -- one of them is a actually quite nice, though it is on a septic field and I know nothing about those. I'm told that is very common in Nanoose Bay and that it's not a big deal. I'm not in a position to buy it yet anyway so it will probably be gone in a week or two. Still it's fun to look and my realtor is happy to show me around the area.

Hagatha, although I live in the midwest of the US, my career was as a field inspector of sewage treatment plants for compliance with Clean Water Laws and Regulations. Mostly they were huge municipal treatment plants, but I also dealt with single family home septic systems. While your regulations may be different, there is little I don't know about these systems, so please pick my brain any time!

Hello Boomers, hope you are all keeping well! Drac and Hagatha, sounds like you both have been busy bees! Grandson has had his first round of chemo and got home from hospital yesterday. He has another two injections to get at clinic before it all starts again. He was very tired and slept most of the day but Diana is just happy to have him home in his own bed. We got more bad news yesterday. Our daughter-in-law, youngest son's partner, has been diagnosed with bowel cancer. To say we are devastated would be an understatement. She will go in for surgery on Monday morning, then they will be able to say whether or not she will need chemo. Seems life hasn't finished throwing things at us just yet. I'm trying my best to stay away from the dark place. I'm so grateful to be a part of this wonderful site. Take care guys, will speak soon! Much love, Mary

Mary, I'm speechless! If they caught the colon cancer in time, it is very curable. I hope it is for her too. At least your grandson is on the road, tough though it will be. BEGONE, DARK PLACE! Many virtual hugs and peace to you and your family.

I'm not holding my breath for that house, though. The market is hot and homes are selling very quickly, even the expensive ones. My biggest fear is selling this place and having nowhere to go with my two cats. It's quite possible.
