I love Treasures of Mystery Island. I have played it a couple of times.

There are lots more FROGs out there. I believe that all of the games in the Dark Parables series are FROGs. The three Snarkbusters games are all FROGs too, if I am remembering correctly. Magic Encyclopedia is another good one and very challenging. Otherwise, I will have to look through my Purchase History but I know there are plenty more.

Yesterday I finished Hidden Expedition: Reign of Flames CE. I just started Princess Isabella: A Witch's Curse for the second time; I first played it many, many years ago.

I forgot about Snarkbusters. I have 2 of those. Thanks! These should keep me busy for a while! bravo

Good deal, Marlene! I believe there are three Snarkbusters games in all.

I think it may be time for me to revisit those, too. smile

I'm going to try Mystery Legend: Beauty and the Beast and Treasures of Mystery Island soon. Snarkbusters, too, although I remember those pretty well.

At the moment I'm replaying Nightmare Adventures: Witch's Prison. I disliked this game the first time I played it for two reasons: my expectations were too high and I had (and still have, come to think of it) a prejudice against fixing generators particularly in graffiti laden surroundings. The second time I played I liked the game much, much better because I had years of HOPA disappointments to compare it with. This time around, I adore the game and am only sorry that it will be years before memory fades enough to make a fourth play through enjoyable.

I wish I could get Turning Thorn to run; however, the magic of a DPI change has not helped. I still get the unsupported CODEC message.

I am not posting much, obviously. I do read this forum fairly often and hope everyone is well and happy.

8dognight, great to see you posting here. I hope you are doing well. smile

I am presently playing the Unfinished Tales: Illicit Love CE by Elephant Games. I can't for the life of me imagine why this game has been removed from the Big Fish catalogue, but it's a shame that it has been. It's a lovely game of the fantasy type that Elephant did so well in its earlier years.

I just finished Enchanted Kingdom: Fiend of Darkness and it was nice that it had some new puzzles. BUT they were lost on me as some were too hard and not interesting enough for me to spend oodles of time on them, or maybe I am just in that bad mind place right now. Next up is Secret City: Chalk of Fate. I'll be glad when I am finally done going through these Domini games and can play something else!

I don't think I would want to play that many Domini games in a row, even though I have enjoyed many of their games. Although I know you have been playing adventure games too.

Thanks Oldbroad.

Marian, are there any other safe sites that might have Unfinished Tales: Illicit Love?

Oldbroad and Marian, I think I reviewed Brightstone Mysteries: The Others on the big casual game review thread, so maybe BFG removed it. Anyway the game is very good. I remember having to get used to the graphic style and that the adventuring is challenging or was for me.

Thanks to Oldbroad, I found the game on BFG by searching Hotel. The game turns up on page 8 or so of the voluminous results for that word.

You are most welcome, Marlene! I'm glad I was able to think of that series. smile

8dognight, I am finding Unfinished Tales: Illicit Love here. IWin has been around pretty much as long as Big Fish, but having never purchased anything from them I don't know whether I would recommend the site or not. I would read their privacy policy as that might help you make a decision.

I just looked up Brightstone Mysteries: The Others and it was released on Steam a little over a week ago. Big Fish does not have it yet, but perhaps it will be released there later on.

There is also a new New York Mysteries game coming but it landed on Steam first. You can read about it here. Hopefully Big Fish will get it pretty soon. 5 BN's last game also popped up on Steam before it was released on Big Fish.

8dognight, are you suggesting that Brightstone Mysteries: The Others is an old game that has been revived? It actually sounded familiar to me but I thought I might be getting confused with Dana Knightsone OR that it was supposed to be a series that never materialized.. Or were you thinking of Hotel which is a Brightstone Mysteries game? Or are they the same game with different names? I actually have Hotel on disc and never played it. I'm going to re-purchase it on Steam when there is a sale.

Thanks for the head's up on the New York Mysteries game Marian!

I was just checking out Brightstone Mysteries again and now, having taken a closer look at it, it looks like a game that was released on Big Fish years ago called The Others, which was a very good game. Not sure why they have changed the name if it is the same game, though. Now that I think about it, though, what used to be the developer Paprikari Games (Mortimer Beckett, Montgomery Fox, and The Others) now have a publisher's name of Cateia on them, leading me to think that Cateia bought out Paprikari. And Playrix bought Cateia a few years ago. It's hard to keep up because who owns who can change so rapidly in the gaming industry.

Big Fish also carries Hotel.

Ahh, so now you've told me that once again, I have been duped into buying one game under two different names! blush

And yes, thank you, I know Big Fish has Hotel also. Actually Hotel comes up on BF if you search Brightstone but the other game does not.

It's not the same game as The Others but one blurb I saw used graphics from the older The Others of a hotel which is why I got them confused.

The new one is a straight, no frills adventure game. I'm playing now and it's okay.

I am starting to get confused for sure. Which game are you playing, 8dognight? What I looked at on Steam for Brightstone Mysteries: The Others has the same description and some visuals as the Big Fish game The Others. I believe it may be improved/updated some how. They supposedly updated Hotel (on Steam).

I am playing a BFG game called Hotel. The player character is a young woman named Brightstone. The setting is mainly a putatively medieval castle. There is no relationship whatsoever to a good older casual called The Others.

Apparently Hotel is sometimes called Brightstone Mysteries: Paranormal Hotel and The Others is now going by Brightstone Mysteries: The Others. Two different games in a "series".

Thanks for clarifying which game you are playing!

Yes, that's it. For some reason, Cateia Games has decided to give them a facelift and re-release them.

I started Mystery Tales: Dangerous Desires last night and am already frustrated. I got stuck in the very first puzzle which is before the game actually even starts so I got out of the game to try it again today. I still couldn't get it today so I looked at the guide. NO SOLUTION in the guide so I had to skip the puzzle so I can move forward. Why do I continue to pay extra money for useless guides??? That is my frustration!!!

Sorry for the rant!

Can you look at a video walkthrough that shows the puzzle being solved?

I do notice, however, that the walkthrough says this:

Quote
This guide will show solutions for non-random puzzles.

Perhaps that is why your puzzle in the guide did not show the solution. The person who wrote that is an excellent guide writer - although not to say that she can't make a mistake.

You know, I guess I need to have my eyes examined!!! I Googled the walkthrough and I see the solution right there in front of me but when I looked at the guide while in the game, I did not see it. Something about the terse way it is written was just not clear to me.

I will apologize for my rant and you wasting your time, Marian, but I still wonder why I waste my money on CE's. You can usually find a wt by Googling and I don't really care about all the "extras". Sometimes the bonus chapter is okay but not worth double the price and sometimes I'm ready to be done with the game and don't even want to play the bonus chapter (though I do anyway). Actually, I only buy CE's of new games now though, not the old ones I've been catching up on. Those are all SE's.

thanks hug

Those arguments about CEs and whether they are worth it or not is something I settled a long time ago - I just wait until the CE is on sale for the price of the SE or close to it - and that ended all my indecision on the matter. And that alone has been enough to keep me as a Game Club member.

No worries about the puzzle either. smile

When I first started buying from Big Fish and really building up my library, they had 65% off sales every Thursday and that is when I made all of my purchases. Now I wait for the BOGO's and why I do buy some of my casuals from Steam as they do have better deals sometimes. I do want to help keep Big Fish in business though and trust them a bit more, especially for the older games.
