I had to leave the little guy in for some tests and x-rays. Hopefully we'll know what's going on by tomorrow.
It's still raining. Boy, do we need it. Also -- and this is wonderful -- since the Labour Day weekend all the tourists are gone. The roads are much quieter and there's even parking available in town!
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

So, Dude has a severe hernia that has pushed all of his abdominal organs into his chest. The vet thinks he's been like this for years and years, if not from birth, but it may have been steadily getting worse over time. The solution is surgery, of course, so we're just waiting to see if there is availability in the specialist animal hospital in Nanaimo; if not, it'll be in Victoria. He'll have to have a sedative to keep him quiet until his surgery, and who knows how long that will be.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Oh, no! So, maybe he's just been miserable all this time... the poor baby. Hopefully, that surgery will happen quickly.

Yeah, poor little guy. I had noticed that he gets out of breath very quickly when I play with him, but this explains it -- his lungs are compressed and one side may be completely squashed flat. They can't really tell because they can't see anything clearly. Anyway, it's the operation or the bad alternative since he can't live this way, so I'll take my chances on the surgery.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

He's been given some Gabapentin, so the pacing and meowing stopped for a while but it's starting up again. The surgery will be done in Nanaimo, so there won't be a long drive. I'll find out tomorrow when it can be done.
Of course, now I have to administer the Gabapentin and Dude doesn't like it. I'll have to make a Kitty Burrito in a towel.
Incidentally, the vet also said that the most likely cause of this condition is a very hard blow, like being hit by a car, or, sadly, being kicked hard.

I said to someone yesterday that I'm ready for bonfires and hoodies! It was 52 degrees this morning and my feet are cold - I might have to think about going back to shoes and socks! I have been either barefoot or in sandals all summer.
That double dark brew is just the ticket this morning. Had to break open that 18th ten-pound bag of sugar this morning. Migrate to Central America, already!!!
And, soot, a nice quiet Wednesday is what I get! Hubby headed up to our 120 acre farm 15 minutes west of here to start clearing branches and fallen trees off the trails in the woods in preparation for deer season. So, I have the whole day to myself!

There's nothing better than a dark coffee in my heated mug on a cold morning.
The landscaper is arriving today to quote on a twice-yearly pruning in my garden. It really needs it! There in one vine that is a fast grower it's taken over an entire corner of my garden. I did lose a couple of ferns to the drought, and one plant that needed watering every single day.
I managed to get the medication into the little guy last night and he seems very relaxed and calm, no pacing.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Well, he's back to his pacing and howling to go outside, so I think he either needs Cativan or counselling!

He's not in pain -- he's getting Gabapentin twice a day. This is all about wanting to go outside. He's obsessed, pounding on the windows, howling at the door, padding from window to door to window. Willow is living in the garage to get away from him. I've bought him a portable three-level Catio which should be arriving this weekend. Hopefully it won't be too difficult to put together. Then I can stuff him in it and roll it out the door whenever he gets the yowlies! The vet is taking it seriously and is considering a sedative so Willow and I don't lose our minds, but first we have to get through the surgery. I have a friend visiting from Vancouver this weekend -- she's looking at moving here, so we'll be touring Open Houses. Another friend from Campbell River is planning on moving down here next year. A third friend is, ironically, thinking of moving from Vancouver to Campbell River. I'm trying to talk them into moving closer to here but it's more expensive. It would be nice to have old friends living nearby.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.
