Today I'm setting up the kennel for Dude post-surgery; it's an extra-large one because he'll be living in it for two weeks, so it needs a small litter box and a bed and a bit of wriggle room for food and water.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I'm with oldbroad and Marian. I can't wait for it to be over and for Dude to be recuperating in his little kennel.

Thank you. The little paycheque eater is obviously feeling better now that he has a steady dose of Gabapentin in him.
Finally -- it looks as though we have a few days of heavy rain approaching! Even my toughest shrubs and trees were starting to get brown patches.
How's your little hen, Draclvr?
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Hagatha, the little hen didn't make it. I tried, but her injuries were just too severe.

Hagatha, it's the cost of living in the middle of the coyote's home territory. We do our best, but understand the costs of co-existence.

Connie, coyotes are such smart opportunists, I think they can be found everywhere! Usually all we find is a pile of feathers, so something must have happened to allow her to escape. We think maybe the neighbor's dogs heard the commotion and ran over there barking. My neighbor has about 80 chickens and free ranges hers too, so she has had to learn to live with losing one now and then too. Hawks are another problem - they will dive down and grab one!
Another beautiful day ahead. Happy Friday!

We also have coyotes where we live. Years ago I use to ride my horse thru the woods on the farmland behind us. We had made some pretty nice trails with the farmers permission. One day I spotted several coyotes in the distance on a ridge walking single file with noses to the ground...my horse had stopped suddenly and I thought he saw them too, but it was a flock of turkeys that were actually flying thru the trees right in front of us! Scared us both! Enjoy your Friday Connie, Draclvr and everyone. Gerry

We don't have coyotes on Vancouver Island but our two previous cats managed to survive to ripe old ages living in an area heavily populated with coyotes, in Burnaby. We saw coyotes just walking on the street quite often, in broad daylight. They live quite happily in urban areas. We always had a cat flap, and that saved my Rachel's life at least once that we know of because we saw a coyote chase her. She flew through the flap and refused to go outside again for a week -- and sometimes after that she just didn't want to go out, and we'd know a coyote was around.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

As always on Saturday, I fixed hubby his big breakfast. Now it's time for me to sit down and enjoy Gerry's dark brew and yes, listening to hummingbirds. They're still flying through!
Having my older son and DIL over tonight for steaks on the grill before the weather turns icky.
Connie, hope your fund-raiser is a success! We did that at our American Legion for a member and his wife when she had cancer and they had no insurance. We raised over $10,000 for them! It wasn't but a drop in the bucket compared to the medical bills, but at least it helped. My whole little hometown did it up in NW Iowa when my BIL had to leave for 3 months to have a stem cell transplant. They raised $40,000 for him and my sister! Again, only a drop in the bucket, but at least she didn't have to worry about paying the mortgage and could afford to rent a nice apartment close to the medical center.
Oh, and HAPPY AUTUMN EQUINOX!!!

Connie I hope your fundraiser goes well.
I have nothing to do today at all but wait for one delivery, drink some of that dark brew and watch TV. It rained overnight and it looks like 4 days of rain coming. The neighbourhood is having a pancake dinner tomorrow night; I wonder if it will be cancelled? I'll drop by anyway. It would be great to meet a few more of my neighbours.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.
