Two more days until Mr. Conehead gets his freedom. I let him out of the office two days ago because he was crying so much. Now he's schlepping around the house with his cone. I've made little steps for him to climb up on the couch and windowsill but he did manage to make a break for the bedroom and jumped up and down on the bed. Since that was day 12 I presume he didn't tear anything.

The Stellar's Sea Lions have arrived in force. You can hear them grumbling and barking from their pull-out across the water. Noisy and smelly and quite dangerous if you get too close.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I'm sure Tuesday can't come fast enough for both you and Dude! How is mom settling in for her visit?

Brewed enough of my Special Reserve Kenya coffee for everyone this morning.

Looking at a beautiful fall day and trying to decide what to do with it! Will probably head out to the tomato forest to see what's out there.

Since we are finally done with visitors for the year, I will finish putting the spare bedrooms back in order. With the colder nights, my two "outdoor" cats are spending the nights inside and the morning light showed all the cat hair tumbleweeds rolling around, so guess I will have to do floors today!

One more day for Dude, hagatha! Or should I say, one more day for you!

Yum. Kenya coffee.

I woke up later than usual to wind and a very foreboding sky. It's supposed to be heavy rain today and tomorrow and continue raining all week. Several of my shrubs and trees suffered through the drought so I'll be outside in the rain today pounding in plant food spikes around the trees that look the worst. Next year I'll have a better idea about the watering requirements. I hope I don't lose any of the trees.

Yesterday Dude jumped up onto my bed and then off again and landed badly because of his cone. I hope he didn't hurt himself, but it was day 14 so he should be okay. What I find so interesting is how sweet and gentle Willow has been around him when she's normally such a pesty jerk. I guess she knows he's not well.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

He looks mostly miserable. The cone gets in the way when he walks and gets stuck on corners, and he's had a couple of accidents because he can't get to his litter box in time. However, it is all systems go otherwise. I've also weaned him off his Gabapentin.

Good chuckles this morning, Lex!

hagatha, I'm sure you're looking forward to Dude getting his stitches out and his cone off today! Did you ever get your portable catio put together?

I'm finishing up the last of the apples today. Going to peel, slice, dip in water with lemon juice to stop the slices from turning brown and then freeze on trays. Then I will put into Zip Locs in recipe amounts for pies and apple crisps this winter. My husband has an old apple peeler that is from around 1878... it looks like a medieval torture device! But, man, does it peel a bunch of apples in a hurry! We clean ours up and spray it down well with a food grade oil before we store it between uses.

Draclvr: sometimes the old gadgets work better & last forever compared to anything new that would probably break within a year.

Draclvr, I never got the catio put together. I might have time once my mother leaves. She's a lot of work.

Dude is cone-free and has apparently done extremely well considering how severe his condition was. The surgeon has no concerns at all.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Yay for little Dude! Let the annoying cat games begin! Are the kitties OK with your mom being there? Does she like your new home?

judith, I find that to be true for a lot of things. There are "modern" versions of this primitive peeler, but I've used a couple of them and gone back to this ancient one. It's really an ingenious contraption. You push the apple on three little prongs and start turning the handle. It turns the apple against a blade and then at the end a little "foot" pops the apple off the device!

Awoke to thunder and lightning and some strange substance falling from the sky about 5:45 this morning! Unfortunately, it didn't last long and I went back to sleep.

Made another big pot of that Special Reserve Kenya coffee so there is enough for everyone to enjoy with Connie's goodies!

Looks like a pretty and sunny day ahead for my friends Kim and Patti who are canning tomato sauces today from the sauce they did out here this summer. They freeze it in gallon jugs and then make spaghetti and chili sauces in the fall. I will just sit out here and enjoy my nice sunny fall day - NOT canning!

Can't believe it's Wednesday already!
