Still bitterly cold here in Edmonton, woke up to fog, couldn't see anything out the window, it's now -31f or -35c. Hubby goes out twice a day to start the car & let it run for a few minutes even though we have it plugged in.
A balanced diet is a cookie in each hand.

That's just so brutal, judith! Hubby is going out to the chicken house every couple of hours to gather the eggs or they will freeze. It's still -1 degrees F here in Missouri at 2:30 in the afternoon!
I just keep running loads of laundry through the washer and no frozen pipes yet!

oldbroad, I just bookmarked that soup! It sounds heavenly! Might be just the thing later this week! I love recipes from Taste of Home. I used to have a subscription their magazine.

Good frosty morning! It's already up to zero at 10:30! Heat wave!
Just now sitting down to my morning coffee and it's almost lunch-time. SO glad you had it already here, Gerry! Had to capture and get a barn cat into a cat carrier! Wally has been squatting a peeing constantly. A UTI is not a huge deal, but a blockage in a male cat is an emergency. So, dropped him off at the vet this morning. Also made an appointment for my 18+ year old barn cat I have in the bathroom. She's not eating much and I want to be sure she doesn't have kidney failure, bad teeth or anything else.
The things we do and the expense we incur for out pets!!
How was your soup, oldbroad?
Happy Monday

Good morning! Another heat wave - it's up to 2 degrees above zero!
I'm doing a little cleaning and getting ready for my step-daughter and her boyfriend to arrive either tomorrow or Thursday. Given that Tom is almost as old as her dad, boyfriend sounds kind of weird! Perhaps "male companion" would be better! They missed the Christmas party last weekend because he is having some medical issues, but are heading here from Virginia for a 70th birthday party in the family this Saturday.
Wally's urine looked "suspicious," so they are doing bloodwork this morning. Don't know what that means.

I've had a frantic few days. I'm helping a friend pack and find a new place -- she has no car. We finally got her locked into an apartment yesterday and celebrated with dinner at a really nice brew pub in Qualicum Beach.
Today I have the handyman here to put my bookshelves together, so hopefully I can have my books unpacked tomorrow, freeing up my garage. It's the last big thing that needs to be done around here. Once I have my garage space I can buy the equipment I need for outdoor maintenance. On another front, my sister in Ontario is at the end of her rope working full time and constantly checking in on my 92-year-old mother, who lives in a different city We're going to have to convince her to move into a retirement home. She's very independent and stubborn, but it's time.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Draclvr, I hope the two kitties are okay. A UTI is nasty for a cat, because you usually don't notice until it's very bad. If only they could talk.

Good Morning everyone. I've made a pot of double dark brew this morning. We had snow and ice yesterday and lost power twice. Temps have dropped into the teens and wind chills are in the single digits...we are now in a deep freeze for the next week. The roads and driveways are a sheet of ice...anywhere it was shoveled yesterday turned to ice. I will be staying home all day indoors again today...not sure if I will even attempt to get the mail. Hope you all stay warm and your temps go up today! Gerry

Good morning! We might actually get up to 32 degrees F today! But then, by Friday, back down to zero for a couple of days.
Well, one kitty back home. He had blood and elevated protein in his urine, but after bloodwork and a $400 vet bill, we don't know why. They gave him a long-acting antibiotic injection just to say they did. I had to laugh when they all raved about what a SWEET cat Wally is! He loves me and hubby, but won't come near anyone else. He is a feral who was dumped out here as a 4 month old kitten. Will be taking the ancient barn kitty in tomorrow. I'll be surprised if I come back home with her. She is definitely at least partially deaf and blind, doesn't eat much of anything and if she has teeth or kidney issues, I can't just throw her back out in the barn. And she is just miserable here in the house, even though it's warm.
Company arriving for a few days, so need to finish a little cleaning and some laundry.
Happy Wednesday!
