Good morning everyone.
I'm going to put up some more pictures and art today, try to get this place more or less finished. I have some room in the garage now, so I can start to set it up properly. I really miss my basement, though. I have a massive crawl space, but it's only 3 feet high, and although it's bright and clean and dry, and I can easily manoeuvre down there, I can foresee it being an issue when I'm 80.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Good Morning and Welcome to the Weekend. Lots of dark Wide Awake Brew is ready to start your day Connie, Fogfighter, Draclvr, hagatha, soot and all who join us this morning. I'm sorry to say we did not see the sun yesterday...I think that makes 12 days in a row without sunshine or blue sky! Today the local weatherman said we will see it! I envy you such nice weather Draclvr! Hagatha, I am 80 so I can say I think it will surely be a problem to walk around bent over with only 3 feet of head room! I hope to walk in the sunshine today...my weekend walks are 3 miles each day and during the week 4 miles a day...weather permitting. I love getting out in the fresh air even when it is cold! Have a fun day everyone! Gerry

Good morning everyone. We've had some sun lately and I'm looking forward to resuming my daily walks after all the snow and rain.
Draclvr, a couple of weeks ago Dude resumed the pacing and howling to go outside. He chirps or howls every three or four seconds, and jumps up and down off the windowsill with a loud plop every 30 seconds or so. It gets so bad I literally can't think and the simplest mental task becomes impossible. I had a cat flap installed in the garage man door last week, but the lock doesn't work and I'm not letting them out without an escape hatch that can be used to lock them in, too.
I've given up on the catio idea. The big metal one I put together just makes them frantic. They both see it as a cage. I'm going to take my chances with them as outdoor cats. I'm at the end of a road with very narrow streets and people drive slowly because there are deer on the road.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Hagatha, i was wondering whether part or all of your crawl space could become new territory for the feline duo!

Hagatha, would something like this make you feel better about letting the little rascals outside? We have a similar one for our Bloodhound. GPS Tracker for Cats.

Lex, the crawl space would be a novelty for about five minutes, but the biggest problem is that the metal hatch is very heavy and difficult to open and close. It literally has to be hauled up and over the rim of the hole. I only go down there to store things and to let the HVAC guys in.
Both my previous cats were outdoor cats in a coyote-infested neighbourhood. Both of them lived to 18 and died of old-age-related diseases. There are no coyotes on Vancouver Island. I have heard that there are racoons around here but I've never heard or seen one. The biggest problem would be other cats, and there is one that comes into the garden regularly. I think if it was two against one it would stay away. Willow won't stray far from her food bowl anyway, and Dude will do what Dude does. There's no way he's been an indoor cat all his life.
I'll ask the vet what she thinks about those tracking collars but I don't like collars on cats; I'm afraid they'll hang themselves.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I kind of feel the same way about collars on cats. None of mine - indoor or outdoor - have them.

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday Connie, soot, hagatha, Draclvr, Fogfighter, Lex and everyone! A fresh brewed double dark Wide Awake Coffee is ready! That first cup is so good! It was a beautiful sunny, but chilly day yesterday. I was able to get in a nice long walk...about 4.5 miles. I try and walk 3 to 4 miles every day. Hagatha raccoons can be vicious when it comes to cats...one of my neighbors cats was attacked and killed by a raccoon. If you let your cats out just don't let them out at night...not usual to see raccoons in the day time. Hope you all enjoy your day. Gerry

Good Sunday morning! Our lovely warmish days are over for a while!
Gerry, you are so right about raccoons. They are beautiful and cute, but they are also deadly. They killed a couple of my neighbor's chickens night before last. I wonder if Hagatha even has raccoons on her island.
A good day to be lazy and maybe do some gaming.

Good morning all. It's another nice day, but the sun is bringing the cold temperatures back with it. Still, it's a nice day to go for a walk.
We do have raccoons on the Island, though I have never seen one in the years i have been here. In the old coyote-infested neighbourhood in North Burnaby we saw and heard raccoons all the time. As a side note, when my cat Rachel was still young, she used to play with a raccoon kit, which was pretty darned cute. But wildlife is one of the reasons I want a cat flap with a locking system, so when the cats arrive for their dinners I can lock them in.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.
