connie, I meant to post yesterday to send you hugs, but it got away from me. Hey everyone! It's been crazy busy here between boarders, and my clients needing extra walks and hubby healing from surgery. I do read every day though and wish you all well!

Greetings: hope you are all doing okay apart from what has been mentioned above. Is anyone else spicing up Wordle by playing Victordle (previously called Cowordle)? Something to make you smile: I finally stopped drinking for good. Now I just drink for evil. They say we can have gatherings with up to eight people without issues. I don't even know eight people without issues. Friend: "Look! Your husband is talking to another girl." Me: "Let him. I want to see how long he can suck-in his stomach." I have opened a can of worms. They just sit there, the worms. Hardly the chaos that's been advertised. I think the proper name for older women should be "Queen-agers". That's it. Carry on. I went line dancing last night. Well ... it was a roadside sobriety test ... same thing ... Theme parks can snap a crystal-clear picture of you on a roller coaster going 70 mph, but bank cameras can't get a clear shot of a robber standing still. Did you know that people who look after chickens are literally Chicken Tenders? The fastest land mammal is not a cheetah ... it's a toddler who has just been asked "what's in your mouth?" Dear paranoid people who check behind their shower curtains for murderers ... if you do find one, what's your plan? The more I get to know people, the more I realize why Noah only let animals on the boat. Facial recognition software can pick a person out of a crowd but the vending machine at work can't recognize a dollar bill with a bent corner. Research has shown that laughing for two minutes is just as healthy as a twenty-minute jog. So now I sit in the park and laugh at all the joggers. When my wife is mad at me, I tighten all the jar lids, so she has to talk to me. Covid-19 Fact: 87% of gym members don't even know their gym is closed. Every day, thousands of innocent plants are killed by vegetarians. Help stop the violence - eat bacon. I never make the same mistake twice. I do it like, five or six times, you know, to make sure. Someone just honked to get me out of my parking space faster, so now I just have to sit here until both of us are dead. My train of thought derailed. There were no survivors. I know it's time to clean out my purse when my car assumes it's an extra passenger who isn't wearing a seat belt. In the 1980s I fell off my bike and hurt my knee. I'm telling you this now because we didn't have social media then. Some people seem to have aged like fine wine. I aged like milk ... I got sour and chunky. I still have a full deck; I just shuffle and deal slower. Crafter’s philosophy ... why pay $7 for it when you can make it with $92 of craft supplies?
Life is what happens while you're making other plans.

Good Friday morning! Lex, the last one about crafters spending $92 on something that should cost $7 is 100% spot on!! LOL!
We had a little snow shower about 4 am this morning, but it's mostly gone now.
Looks like a lazy day ahead today - time for a little gaming! Just finished a Tomb Raider from 2013, so will have to pick something else from the pile.

Thanks for the morning laughs, Lex. I can't decide which is my favourite. I think it might be this one: My train of thought derailed. There were no survivors.
We've got more rain. I'm off to yoga this morning and then I'll work on my taxes for a while.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Good morning everyone; I have a question for Draclvr (or anyone who knows) I've noticed while reading your posts that you are quite a good cook & baker; my family does love my pastry recipe but while checking out recipes on line, I came across a pastry recipe that uses very cold unsalted butter instead of shortening, I was wondering if you ever used this or your thoughts on it.

Hi, judith! When you say pastry, I'm not sure what you mean. Is that the same as a pie crust? "Pastry" can mean several different things in the US! If so, after years of using shortening or lard for my pie crust, my go-to recipe now is one using very cold unsalted butter and my food processor. If you mean something other than a pie crust, just give me more details! This dough could also be used to make any number of pastries. Perfect Pie Crust

Thanks Draclvr; yes, I do mean pie crust. So you use unsalted butter, I'm going to give it a try & see how it comes out for me. I don't have a food processor, I just use a pastry cutter to cut the shortening into pea size pieces, it works probably not as good as a food processor. Thanks for the info.

It will work just fine with the pastry cutter too - just takes a bit more work with the super cold very hard butter. I still use my pastry cutter for a lot of things. I think it specified unsalted butter because it uses salt in the recipe. I've used salted butter too and it turns out fine.

Good Morning Lex, Connie, soot, Draclvr, BeaSong, Marian, hagatha, oldbroad, judith, and everyone! I've put on an extra pot of Wide Awake double dark brew for everyone. Lex I'm going to share your funny "things to make you smile"...they are great! Thanks for sharing. Marian I hope your weather calms down. We are expecting up to 1.5 inches of rain today. This winter has been the rainiest on record here...just under 19 inches for December thru February! Draclvr and judith my mom made her pie crust from scratch using lard. She never measured her ingredients, but just knew what and how much she needed. It was the best pie crust I ever had and I could never make it come as good. It was flakey, thin, and the bottom crust was always cook...never "raw" like so many bottom crust are. Hope everyone has a Super Saturday! Gerry

Good morning and happy March everyone. Time flies and the snow is gone. Though further north King Winter still reigns. The DDWAB tastes great as always. Makes the day. New month and a new crossword puzzle. This time kind of French themed. Happy solving to those of you who do crosswords

Gerry, it's so far so good here. No outage yet. Lots of wind, hail, and rain which is now getting slushy. We have more rain/snow on the way but I believe the worst is over. Fingers crossed. We seem to be breaking records all over the country. We had 30+ inches of rain here last winter! I read that it was the most rain in the winter that California had seen since Abraham Lincoln was in office! Wishing everyone a pleasant Saturday.

I've been watching your weather, Marian, and hoped it would at least leave your power alone!
Made hubby's big breakfast and settling down with a cup of Gerry's coffee! Supposed to be back up in the 70's today. Might actually work up the energy to start cleaning out the perennial beds. The chickens have done a pretty good job already!
Happy Saturday!

Good morning everyone.
It's snowing. Wet, horrible snow. It's dark and gloomy. I doubt it will last, but it's derailing my plan to get some 25% vinegar to kill the millions of tiny weeds along the verge of my property. I need two dry days. Looks like I'll have to wait. In the meantime, the weeds are spreading.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.
