Good Morning Connie, hagatha, Draclvr, Fogfighter, oldbroad, BeaSong, soot and everyone. Enjoy the Wide Awake double Dark Brew on this Sunday morning! Draclvr how did your day go at the horse rescue yesterday? Fogfighter hard to believe you still have some snow! Good Luck renewing your passport hagatha...I know what you mean about the brain not shutting off! Friday I had an issue with my water. I have well water and after doing a load of laundry I ran out of water...had no water pressure. Plumber came checked the well and the "reserve" level of water was low which he thought might mean a leak somewhere. Long story short the pressure built back up on its own and when he came back Saturday to check the "reserve" it was good. He will be back today to check it again...he still thinks it is a leak in the pipe coming to the house from the well. Until I know for sure that is the problem...or the issue returns I am not going to do anything. I want to be sure that is the issue and not something else. Hope you all have a peaceful day. Gerry

Good Sunday morning! Ugh, Gerry. No water is maybe worse that no power! Of course, we also have a well and if there is no power, this is also no water because the pump needs electricity! Hope they can figure out what's wrong.
Yesterday turned out great. They estimated between 600 - 700 people. There were dozens of volunteers and 22 people came out from the Missouri Humane Society facility in St. Louis to help too. We had two wagons going for the rides to the back of the 165 acre property and 4 of us to be the guides. So we alternated and never had to do more than 2 in a row. You have to do your little talk pretty loud to be heard by everyone on these big wagons and my voice starts to get croaky! Beautiful sunny day - a tad chilly, but that was OK. I had a little streak run up and hug me around my waist! It was the little girl I pick up from the bus now and then when her mom can't. They live on the Ranch full-time and it's a 2 mile walk through the woods for her, so I run down and grab her. I was a TIRED puppy when I got home and had hubby run in town and pick up a couple of salads for carry-out from a local restaurant.
Heading out to mow for a few hours shortly.
Gardens put to bed. Time for more reading and gaming.

Draclvr, that's one heck of a day! I've discovered one of the "joys" of ex-urban living. After the landscaper left the other day, I smelled what I assumed was fertilizer since they said they had fed the beds. If only that were true. It's my septic tank, clearly needing a clear-out. It's a nasty business and stinks up the whole neighbourhood for a day, but it must be done.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Hagatha, I had to literally LOL! I know that smell to my very core! I spent my 20 year career enforcing Clean Water Laws and Regulations in the Water Pollution section - which means sewage! I inspected 5 million gallons per day municipal treatment plants down to little lagoons treating waste from a few mobile homes. That smell is in my genes I think! Yes, if you have on-site sewage treatment, you need to have your tank pumped out every few years, depending on the size of your tank and if you have a drain field. Let's just say, I know my s**t!

Good Morning and Welcome to a new week! Wide Awake double dark brew is ready to start the day. Plumber coming back today to check the level of the reserve in the well. I had water all weekend and kept an eye on the water pressure gauge and it seems to be working okay...not sure if there is a leak so I will not rush into digging up the yard! Enjoy your day! Gerry

Good Monday morning! Chilly here, but NO SNOWFLAKES, PLEASE! Hope your lone little flake is the only one, Fogfighter!
Hope you don't have to dig up your yard, Gerry!
If it warms up enough, my plan is to spray fungicide on all my daylilies.

Gerry, let's hope your well is okay. I suppose that's another one of the "joys" of ex-urban living!
Draclvr, my septic system has a warning system on it, but I'm not sure what it does since it's not giving me any signs that things have gone wrong. I'll have to see if there's any documentation on it in the package the last owners left me. It might be a warning indicator if the water level reaches a certain point or if there's a clog somewhere, rather than indicating a need to empty.

Things may be totally different where you live, hagatha. It all depends on whether you have on-site treatment or are connected to a municipal or large treatment facility. A warning light may just be if power is lost. Definitely get familiar with it as it's not pleasant to have your sewage treatment go down!

Draclvr, we're on our own here. Each property has its own septic system and some have a septic field. I'm not too worried about it as the smell dissipated a lot today so it's not a screaming emergency, just something I need to deal with tomorrow afternoon. My almost-flat tire takes precedence tomorrow morning.
Fogfighter, when do you normally begin to get Spring weather?

April is usually a mostly nice spring month. Ms. Snowflake may or may not come visiting in April. This cold and late spring she's been here more than normal. Today she's absent but there was frost on the ground this morning. Ms. Snowflake may of course also come in May, but that's really rare. I start a pot of SomewhatDarkWideAwakeBrew which will have to do until Gerry arrives and makes the real thing. Happy Tuesday Gameboomers

Good Morning Fogfighter, Connie, Draclvr, hagatha, oldbroad, soot, and everyone. Enjoy the Wide Awake double dark brew this morning...it is ready and waiting! Fogfighter we have the chilly weather with chance of frost overnight, but no snowflakes thank goodness!...hope your weather turns Spring like soon. Hagatha, if you "smell" that septic odor, it usually means it needs cleaning out. If your neighbors are close it may be hard to tell if the smell came from yours or theirs. Soot sounds like you are enjoying your time with the dogs...you get exercise too...good for all of you! Plumber was a no show yesterday...may have been a communication issue...water pressure is okay so far. Enjoy the day everyone! Gerry

Gerry, I've been going up to my immediate neighbour's fence line to see if it's coming from there, but it's been almost 5 years so I think I'll just get it done. If I'd been thinking clearly last year I would have made them do that as a condition of the sale. It's not expensive, but it is gross.
Loads of nice Somewhat Dark coffee got me going this morning, up and ready to deal with the flat tire. The early morning tragic cat opera has been playing at 5:30 a.m. for the last two weeks and I'm ready to give up on having Willow on a diet.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Good Morning everyone. Wide Awake double dark brew awaits! Thanks for putting it on yesterday Fogfighter. Hagatha, I agree...it is recommend here to have septic tank cleaned every 5 years especially if you do not know how often the previous owner had it cleaned and was careful using it. Happy Hump Day! We have a septic tank system here and for a large family, emptying every year is recommended: however certainly no less often than every 5 years even for a household of only one or two people. Of course if your system includes a soakaway and you are careful about what detergents etc you use, in theory you should virtually never need to have the tank pumped out because everything will decompose and be absorbed (but probably not necessarily without aroma...!)
Life is what happens while you're making other plans.
