Fogfighter, here's a link to a live performance of Sweet Louise for people to enjoy. Girl rocks the blues!

I think I've posted this before - I have music in my head constantly. I wake up in the middle of the night with music in my head. Usually it's something I REALLY dislike or something I haven't heard or thought about for 60 years. Sunday school songs and Christmas carols I don't care for are examples. Then I can't get rid of them for days sometimes! But this morning I woke up with Steely Dan's FM in my head! YES! So, I had to pop up that album in my headphones...

Steely Dan is most welcome in my head, too. I have a few of their songs on my Spotify playlist.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I usually have my whale (ambient space) music playing in the background during the day ... and then when WOM is in the same location and humming a tune the next thing I know is I'll start playing that tune in my head too. Draclvr, I've never had music in my dreams ... especially tunes I don't care for ..."weird dreams!!" inhabit my brain most nights just before I wake up.

Soot, one night I was dreaming about an old negro spiritual song called "The Old Ark's A'Movering." This was a song that I sang acapella in a trio of 3 girls when I was a junior or senior in high school - which makes it a minimum of 60 years since I've even thought of it! We did sing it at the Iowa State Music Contest and got a #1 rating!

Where does this stuff COME from?!

I always have music in my head, but I could not sing worth a [blip] and I did not have the determination to practice and so progress beyond a pretty basic level of musical instrument playing! Most recently the song in my head was Sand and Water prompted by a quiz posted by Urban Worrier: such a wonderful and emotive song
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHf7DtRa5TY

But at the other extreme I have also been exploring the Hellacopters prompted by mention of them in a Jo Nesbo Book, Sweden's answer to the Ramones, and been surprised to discover that Kevin Costner and Modern West are a pretty good band when I did not even realise he was a musician! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-g5eFf3hdc

That's a beautiful song. I have it on my Spotify playlist.

Watching TV sometimes reminds us of things we've forgotten -- yet after decades, I remember the words. Something different, from my past:

My wife Linda is a great Genesis fan but more about Phil Collins than Peter Gabriel: Genesis never did much for me but some of Peter's solo work really hits the spot including this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_Q79lls1f0
and Biko, but also Sledgehammer for the dance floor
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KSxRj9YhG8

and these are a couple of amusing links

I can't sing either Lex but do enjoy trying in my head quite often lol Wow, I didn't realize Kevin Costner was a musician either!

My lack of musical ability led me to becoming a DJ while I was a student, giving me a more useful income stream than I could have earned as a struggling musician: back then, it did not seem like a valid career prospect... duh

Lex, I totally understand the more useful 'income stream' ... you must have had your own gear which you setup at your different gig locations...

Exactly that Dan. I built much of the gear myself for sound and lights with the assistance of some engineering students, the art being to have something which could be set up very quickly without having to rely on a steady table (we are talking about turntables for vinyl) or nearby power points, and in one winter subject to power cuts, even having a standby generator. I ended up operating in Oxford, London and Paris (where I spent a year as part of a French degree) - fantastic fun! yay

I certainly did, and not just about electronics!

Back in the day after an initial period to let people talk and mingle I would turn up the volume too loud for conversation and hit them with this selection to get them up and dancing, probably grabbing one of the prettiest girls in the room to lead the way devilchili

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkMgs3lFwkQ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUDMzhlefMs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kceiks__PsE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlTKhPkZSJo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ke8mzgex4U

then I might let them catch their breath with something a bit gentler like one of these

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7BeGDZewHs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpVxwWQjIy0

before picking it up again perhaps with these

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4B-TmQhCjk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrIPxlFzDi0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrAV5EVI4tU or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGLGzRXY5Bw

and of course this to keep the joint jumping https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_p81Z0itUo

then it was rinse and repeat with a similar pattern for a few hours (more Stones than Beatles, and with even some Beach Boys mixed in), often ending with these two

Thanks connie, glad you like the selection.

A couple more that were usually somewhere in the mix

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZJiGu6Gz8E
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1FRrZD2y9Y yay

I never had a fixed setlist: I relied on inspiration guided by my take on the mood of the room (not often wrong) and would take some requests while disdaining others!

Every now and then a song transcends genre.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nW9Cu6GYqxo&t=4s

I cannot believe how lovely her vocals on that song. Just gorgeous.

EDIT: That sounds like Bruce Hornsby on keyboard.

Thank you for that (and it probably is Bruce Hornsby on keyboard): pretty [blip] good, but only one of a lot of great songs from her including many memorable collaborations - I love her stuff and cannot resist posting a few examples after that prompt! thumbsup

Crosby, Stills, Nash and...Raitt.

This one popped into my head today for no apparent reason and it's as lovely today as it was back then.

Another good one from a great talent, and not one with which I was familiar (although I was a big fan of much of his output). thumbsup

That one's from Ten Summoner' Tales, which is one of my all-time favourite albums, now that I recall it!
