I did Marian. I usually like something about each game I play and I was able to do all the puzzles by myself (for the most part). I had all the information for one of them at the end but was not quite putting it in the puzzle correctly. I looked at UHS hints and saw where I was going wrong with it. Well, I did get help from the "task list" also, to be honest!

Hopefully, it will not take me 3 years to play Shadow at the Water's Edge. laugh

Once again I tried Real Myst and it is just too dizzying for me to play but I also tried Real Myst Masterpiece and possibly will be able to play that one as I can control my movements better by using the keyboard for moving and the mouse for looking. I have to take it a little farther into the game to see though because there are some areas in the game where you really have to go around and around. We'll see.

I started a replay of Sherlock Holmes: Secret of the Silver Earring last night and played until I got stuck. I may start something else also but not sure yet what. I have a couple of games in mind.

I played Silver Earring once when it was first released and don't remember much about it at all, other than the fact that I enlisted the help of my son with a couple of timed sequences. I would be interested in playing it again, though.

That is the way it is for me with the ND games: I usually like something about each game I play. I may start a replay of another ND oldie this week. It's tempting. And yes, hopefully it won't be three years until Shadow at the Water's Edge. I give you a year and a half, and that is pushing it. wink

With the help of MaG's walkthrough I finished Sherlock Holmes: Secret of the Silver Earring tonight. I think I liked the game the first time I played it but I didn't really care much for it this time. Moving around is hard especially in the timed maze section because you have to click in very exact spots and then Sherlock takes forever to do anything (such as picking up a pail). I also found him very long winded and the solution very convoluted.

I'm not sure yet but I might try The Whispered World next, which I've never played.

So far I like it but I have mostly been in the exploration period so far. I haven't solved much of anything and I'm pretty sure that I'm about to become hopelessly stuck, so I'll see how the frustration level rises laugh .

One thing that was giving me trouble was clicking to get to the action menu or whatever you call it. You click and then three options open (look, talk, touch). I was having a heck of a time with that until I looked in the Steam discussions and also at the review here at GameBoomers. You have to hold the mouse button down, not just click. Going much better now. smile

I made it to Chapter 2 tonight, which means I'm not moving along very fast but I am moving along. I'm doing a lot of trying everything, everywhere.

I like the game quite a bit but I found two things that I didn't like but I may be wrong about them. When I encountered a puzzle and didn't know it was a puzzle until I was in it, I was not prepared for it and tried to back out but, as far as I could tell (though I may be wrong) there was no way to back out. I clicked something I thought would back me out and it solved the puzzle. I didn't like that at all. The fact that there is a solve button is good but not when you don't know that's what it is and aren't trying to solve it. Possibly I missed seeing it say "solve" as I think I did see a "solve" button someplace else after that. I do tend to panic when I can't back out of a puzzle though. I didn't think to go to a prior save at that time but probably would have had to replay a good bit if I had.

Then there was a different type of puzzle that I didn't do quite right but one of the items that I needed was gone then and nowhere to be found (that I could see anyway) so after I figured out what I did wrong, I had to go into a save (which I had thankfully made right before attempting the puzzle) and then I was able to do it. If going into a save is the only way to try the puzzle again, I don't like that either. It's not like you die and get a second chance; you are still in the game and it seems like you should be able to find the item and try again.

Edit: Well, I see a Steam post that says I should have been able to find that item again but I know I looked where the poster says and I didn't find it. Good thing I didn't have to replay much though.

Oldbroad, I tried to replay the Silver Earring just a few weeks ago and thanks to many walkthroughs and youtubes that I watched, I finally got to the spot where he had to put out the fire. With my poor memory, I just couldn't remember where to go so I finally had to quit that one. I have played the Whispered world quite a few times already. I had to give up a few years ago at the tile puzzle and when I started to replay it again a few years later, I read some ideas on how to get past that so I finished the game. And then promptly replayed it again. It is a fun game. I think if you press the escape key you can get out of puzzles, though I am not sure. or there is an arrow key on the side? It is one of those games that gets harder the farther into the game that you get. I used the space bar to search for hotspots a lot. Good luck!

Hi mbday630. Thanks for posting your experience with these two games. Yes, putting out that fire took a long time and many tries for me. I kept turning in wrong directions too and even the time when I finally got it, I thought I was in the wrong place.

I want to slap myself because I don't think I tried the Escape key to back out of that puzzle. Like I mentioned, I tend to panic if I feel stuck in a puzzle that I'm not ready for or don't know how to do. I'll be more prepared though if I run into that situation again. Also, thanks for the information that the game is going to get harder. laugh

My son put the fire out in Silver Earring for me. I called for help, and happily he was around at the time. I suppose I could have gotten through it on my own eventually but I took the easy way out.

I have the manual for The Whispered World Special Edition from GOG, but it does not address the issue of backing out of puzzles.

Finished The Whispered World, not a bad game. Tonight I started The Ransom of Atawallpa. Not too sure what I'm doing and am clicking around a lot. I'm stuck at the moment and the game auto saves but I don't know when, so I hope on exit and I don't lose anything.

I'm hoping to get some help with The Ransom of Atawallpa since I seem to be unable to do anything else in the game. Meanwhile, I have started 11-11 Memories Retold and have been trying to figure out the controls. The PDF Manual does not seem to be there when I click it (on Steam). I think I'm getting the hang of it but am now at a point where I have to avoid mines and decided I needed to exit out of the game and try again another time as I have gotten us all killed a few times already. Not exactly my type of game but seems interesting enough so far. We'll see if I am able to continue in it or not.

I am planning on starting one of the Legend Entertainment games this week, maybe Companions of Xanth or Shannara. Looking forward to replaying all of their games in the coming months.

Are you going to play them on an old computer, or some other method?

The only 2 that I have played since my old XP computer died are Death Gate and Mission Critical, both from GOG, and probably using DosBox.

I just finished Blue Madonna this morning (a Carol Reed mystery). Somehow I had not gotten around to playing this one yet. I really enjoyed it.

Now it's on to a Legend game or one of my other unplayed adventures - haven't made my final decision yet.

I replayed the first 7 Carol Reed games in 2019 and the 8th game in 2020 but then never got around to finishing. I still have the 9th game CD sitting in front of my monitor, already installed and still waiting.

Let us know what you decide on and have fun!

We are moving right along in the game. My son and I are playing it together and we are starting chapter four. I would probably still be back in chapter one or two if not for him. As I said, it's a very cute game and it is turning out to be longer than I thought it would be. There is quite a bit of dialogue to read (no voice overs) and this is fine with me.

I was playing Firmament but stopped during the summer - The game is good and I will probably pick it up again as summer winds down. In the meantime, I just started VENARI - Escape Room Adventure. Very good game with excellent graphics and game play.

Good to know about Venari, sureshot. I picked that game up 10 days ago.

I am slowly moving forward in both of the games I'm playing. I think I may need to consult a walkthrough for 11-11 Memories Retold to help me with a radio but I'll try again before doing that. I'm sure I lost some ground though by having to exit the game (because of the autosave feature) and this is one of those games I can't just keep going back and forth, here and there, trying to figure things out (due to motion sickness). I did manage to get past the mines by myself though!

Venari is a very good game. I posted it about 2 weeks ago when it was on sale. First I had heard of it. Now at $5 it is still a very good deal if anyone is interested in it

Yep Orion - totally worth the $5.00 - I highly recommend this game ! thumbsup

Oldbroad - I am sure you have seen this walkthrough site.. Memories Retold Seems to be very complete - I did not yet get this game - but it IS on my list. I wish there was a way to save games that have this method of saving. It would be easy for the developer to do -- just lazy I guess duh
