Good morning and thanks for coffee and ddb. Dracvlr; I'm glad the Germans missed the climate-nuts. Hard enough to fly across the globe without extra delays. Over here yet a pleasant day. 24 Celsius and cloudy. Yesterday mr Rain was causing mischief around the country, but I missed him. I had a look at today's Puzzle. Clever concept but that type is too tricky for me so I'm leaving it all for you. Logging out for the weekend. Back on Sunday, I hope. Happy Weekend Gameboomers

Good Friday morning! Today we will blanch and I will cut the corn off the cob. Then we will freeze it in pint Zip Locs.
Last night I made BLT's and steamed 6 ears of corn. That has to be the best sweet corn we have ever grown. It was SO good!
DIL stopped by to pick up some tomatoes, cucumbers and sweet corn for her mom. After her dad passed last spring, they had to put her in assisted living and she is NOT happy about it. So Michelle tries to bring her something to cheer her up every Friday. After she fell and laid on the floor overnight, they just had to do something as they couldn't stay with her 24//7.

I've been buying Peaches and Cream corn from the local farm market. I cook it in the microwave and it comes out perfect every time.
You pull the leaves down but not off, pull out the silk, then pull the leaves back up, wrap it in a wet paper towel, and cook it on High for 3 minutes, check it and if needed, cook for one more minute.
The market also had some lovely broccolini and tiny potatoes.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Good Morning Connie, Fogfighter, Draclvr, hagatha, soot and everyone. Wide Awake Double Dark Brew is ready to enjoy this morning! Draclvr a BLT and fresh corn on the cob sounds soo good! Hagatha I also cook corn on the cob in the microwave, but I husk it first, wrap it in wax paper, put it on a paper plate and cook on high for about 2 minutes and it comes out perfect. The time varies depending on the power of your microwave and the size of the ear of corn. Hope you all enjoy your weekend! Gerry

Good Saturday morning! The demo on the hummingbird porch has begun, so it is very noisy with saws and pounding outside my window!
Should anyone ever have to cook a large amount of sweet corn for a crowd, this method also works beautifully. Place the husked and clean ears of corn in a large beer cooler. Pour in boiling water and close the lid - takes about 20 minutes. I've seen recipes where people also add butter and things like Cajun seasoning to the boiling water.
Finishing up the sweet corn today, packaging and putting in the freezer for this winter.
I'm doing the night closing at the horse rescue for 3 nights. LOL! Last night I walked into the big barn and there was a big red butt sticking out of the hay storage. SOMEONE had gotten out of her stall and was having a party, turning over trash cans and pooping everywhere. Luckily it was Butters, a very sweet mare and easy to catch. We have several abused thoroughbreds right now and they are very wary of people yet, so THAT might have taken awhile. I left the poop piles for whoever didn't latch her stall door to clean up! The adventures down there at night continue!

I've never really had much experience with horses but they are lovely animals. My friend in Hope has one, a very gentle mare. We used to give her nose pats and apples.
I've been watching and measuring the water level on my pond and I now have to acknowledge that it has sprung a leak. Oh well. I might go for the plan my pond guy suggested, which it to turn the whole thing into a stream -- less maintenance and less likelihood of leaks, not to mention the fact that it will be far less appealing to otters.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Good Morning Connie, Draclvr, hagatha, and everyone! Wide Awake Double Dark Brew is ready! I've been watching the Olympics for the last couple of days. Yesterday I watched the dressage...the first part of the equestrian eventing...looking forward to the rest of the eventing. The opening ceremony in Paris with the parade of boats carrying the athletes was spectacular in spite of the rain! The Eiffel Tower was beautiful all lit in gold lights! Hope you all enjoy your Sunday! Gerry

Good Sunday morning, everyone! Stayed up much too late reading and slept in till 8:30 this morning! So nice not to have to schedule use of the bathroom with other people.
The hummingbird porch reconstruction continues apace and should be completed by the end of the day today. Yippee! I'm so glad we found these two young men. They already have full time jobs in construction and are trying to start their own local construction company. I know they will get many recommendations from us. Not only do they really know what they are doing, but they are really hard workers. Ah, YOUTH!
Last time closing the horse rescue last night, but no new adventures. It just rained and got me soaking wet!

Good morning everyone!
I, too, stayed up late reading and slept in, because Willow has finally completely given up on waking me early. It is my normal pattern, to stay up reading and wake up late. I find that my sleep is better consolidated if I do that, too.
We're looking at some rain later today, which will be nice. I'm still going out to water a couple of trees that are looking a bit crispy. And looking at my pond again, it definitely has a leak, and the leak is far down, close to the bottom -- unless the leak is around the pump, which is possible. Oh well. I'll have it repaired later on, in the Fall.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I am so sorry to hear that oldbroad! It's never easy to lose one of our pets no matter how old. They are family members, most times better than the 2 legged ones. My heart goes out to you and your brother.

Give em all the love you can, Starcom.
After close to 55 years of having cats, it will definitely be different.
The worry I've had about my brother is surfacing. While he was up here for "family time" he mentioned how he has nothing to do now, that everything he did all day was for his cat. She (they when we had more) was his reason for surviving. Now he has no reason.
