What a lovely story about the owls, Gerry. Woke up to 40 degrees here this morning, but much warmer temperatures on the way in a couple of days. It should be nice and quiet today, just the way I like it. Wishing all of you a peaceful and pleasant Sunday.

Good Sunday morning! Thanks for the laugh, Lex! And, Ana, thank you for that link - I might check it out.
No hornets for about 24 hours now. I'm hoping they have relocated where they belong under the ancient old pear tree! I would love to see my neighbor's bees come back.
Made a big slab of pork ribs for dinner last night. It was hubby's 80th birthday Thursday and he is not interested in a big celebration. But a big dinner is another story! So, I put them on the pellet grill at 275 degrees F for about 3 1/2 hours, wrapping in foil and slathering with sauce for the last hour. Cheesy cauliflower and a Greek style tomato and cucumber salad and it was a feast. We finished off the bottle of wine on the hummingbird porch and he was well-feted for his 80th birthday!
We will have a video chat with the Germans at noon today so they can wish him happy birthday.
Gardens put to bed. Time for more reading and gaming.

Good morning everyone! Emergency kits of instant coffee and knäckebröd available in the break room. New week. Still 20 degrees and mrs Sun is shining. But no doubt about it. Summer is ending and eventually winter is coming. Dracvlr: congrats to hubby 80 Sounds great to have a big steak dinner. The new week has begun. Time to be somewhat productive. Happy Monday GameBoomers

Good Morning Fogfighter and everyone! Wide Awake Double Dark is ready...having my first cup. Expecting severe stormy weather late this afternoon with gusty wind, possible hail and heavy rain. Muggy here today, but should be able to walk once the fog clears. Draclvr I'll be 81 next month! Enjoy your day everyone! Gerry

Good Monday morning! A VERY toasty week ahead. I canned a large bucket of tomatoes yesterday and it was 100 degrees F in the garage where I have a sink, refrigerator and a stove. I do all my canning out there - keeps the mess and the heat out of the house! I was so hot when I was done, I got a cold frosty adult beverage and jumped into the pool - which is a VERY chilly 78 degrees F due to some cooler nights earlier last week. THAT cooled me down in an instant and I didn't stay in long!
Heading out to pick more tomatoes this morning before it gets too hot. As I told the Germans last year when it was 104 degrees in the garage and I was canning green beans, I won't remember how hot it was when I open up that jar for dinner in the winter!
Still no hornets on the hummingbird feeders!
Gardens put to bed. Time for more reading and gaming.

Good afternoon everyone.
We're in the midst of a massive rainstorm, going on all day. It's finally tapering off. People are getting cranky about it. I, on the other hands, am quite pleased that I have an excuse for not mowing my lawn. I feel perfectly justified in reading in front of the fire all day.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Good Morning Fogfighter, Connie, Draclvr, soot, hagatha and everyone. Wide Awake Double Dark Brew is delicious this morning...plenty to go around! That is good news Draclvr that the hornets haven't returned! Sounds like a perfect day hagatha...relaxing in front of the fire with a good book! I'm looking forward to that this winter. Enjoy your Tuesday! Gerry

Good morning all. Autumn seems to have well and truly arrived here with rain and wind (although that is likely in IOM at any time of year!), so indoor activities hold sway, and we are quite tempted to start lighting the fire as hagatha has done... Glad to hear the hornet threat has receded chez Drac. This is a link to a cute owl story someone sent us: it's quite long but worth it https://thecaringowl.co.za/spotted_eagle_owls_2.htmlAnd a heart warming animal rescue video (although surely someone could have found a rope...) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=au2XxrgY3eQ

Missed the break room this morning! Had my annual medical physical and then had to get a chest x-ray and blood work. All is well and I will live to see another day! He commended me on my physical activity and told me that's what keeps us old people going!
I got another 17 quarts of spaghetti sauce and chili sauce yesterday. 101 degrees in the garage! As always, a cold frost adult beverage and a jump in the pool remedied that!

Good Morning, Lex, mbday630, Connie, soot, Draclvr, hagatha, Fogfighter and everyone. Wide Awake Double Dark brew is ready. Loved the owl story Lex...thanks for sharing. I had a busy day yesterday...had to take my car in for emission inspection...it passed! It is a 2004 Subaru Forester...old like me! I also got a summons in the mail for jury duty...after age 75 you can be excused. I requested to be excused as it was to serve in the capital city...a long drive at the commuter our. It would have been in late October and dark to go into the city and dark coming home...I don't drive in the dark any more. Hope you all have a great day! Gerry

Good morning all, I am almost awake with most of a cup of coffee on board Glad you enjoyed the owl tale. Gerry's mention of jury duty reminds me of a local case some years ago when having been retained as prosecutor I received a jury summons... a mistake causing a certain amount of merriment including the suggestion that for me to be on the jury would create an unfair bias Overcast here today, but so far no rain or gales, so possible progress on outside tasks. On an entirely different topic, I have recently stumbled across a reading app called Libby: does anyone have any experience of this? https://www.overdrive.com/apps/libby#GettingStarted

Good afternoon everyone. The temperature is starting to climb back to our normal triple digit mark…yuck. But enjoyed a walk this morning when we were still at 76 degrees. Got the chance to enjoy WADDB and bagels before hitting the grocery store. Lex I don't know Libby but see 'Overdrive' mentioned when Googling Libby…we used Overdrive for years for e-books at our library and enjoyed it. It appears Libby is the newer app developed by OverDrive. Have a great afternoon Fogfighter, Connie, Gerry, Lex, Draclvr and all that follow.

Good morning Connie ... I am enjoying the double dark brew and pondering today's tasks. Our humidity is floating at 96% and it's muggy. But enjoyed a walk this morning before the triple digits hit today. Have a great Thursday everyone

Good Thursday morning! Our humidity isn't quite that high, soot, but it's over 80%. Coupled with a nice toasty 97 degrees F and it's going to be an very unpleasant day. A friend is bringing her daughter and a friend by to play in the pool after school today. Told her we would probably be closing it down next week. We have a huge walnut tree and the leaves falling into the pool clog up the filter. I'm going to miss it!
League bowling tonight.
