Good Sunday morning! Slept really late this morning, so just getting my first cup of WADDB.

Yesterday did NOT go as planned. At 9:45 I got a panicked text from Anna, one of the leads at the horse rescue. They are really, really short handed plus two of the supervisors are on vacation and the Ranch Managere had the day off. She was all by herself as the lead yesterday. She had just found out they had a rather big tour/riding lessons event for a small group of Girl Scouts. The trainer who gives lessons also didn't know about it. Of course, there were no volunteers for the wagon rides and walking tours and she couldn't spare any employees. "Can you come down in 15 minutes and handle this group?!" So, grabbed my barn boots and headed down. No time to even change, so I had on a shirt with stains because I was going to be working outside! But it was all good and the trainer and I made sure these little girls and their parents had the best time of their lives! Anna sent me a text last night thanking me for saving her patootie!

Whew, I was hot and tired when I got home, so nothing else got done. Hubby put a couple of steaks on the grill for supper.

It's a Pilates morning, after which I'm going to do a small bit of garden-related work if I can beat the coming rain.

Good Monday morning! More of that sunny cool morning/warm day weather. Which almost makes me feel guilty watching Hurricane Milton bearing down on Florida again. The one really looks ugly too. I hope there is no more loss of life and people just get out of the way and let the storm roar through. Lives are so much more important than property.

Waiting until hubby goes outside before I start grinding up my smoked jalapenos which I dried in the dehydrator overnight! I will be sneezing too!

MUST work up a giant bunch of tomatoes too... seems like marinara should be the thing.

Our volunteer coordinator at Longmeadow always says this huge facility couldn't function without all of us volunteers. We are one of the top rescue facilities like this in the country that takes in so many different kinds of animals. There is a really big one on the east coast that almost exclusively deals with the horses the Amish throw away into the slaughter pipeline. We've gotten a few of their work horse throw-aways to slaughter and they are the sweetest and gentlest beings ever in spite of the abuse they suffered.
