I did it! I did it! I did it! Actually, I had been in the correct place a couple of times but I'm assuming I forgot to keep crouching and that is why I kept getting killed even in that spot. I played two of the endings, mostly because I accidentally clicked the wrong key but really my first ending was probably better than the second one.

Now if I can just get through The Ransom of Atawallpa...

Let us know how you like Voodoo Detective. I've got that one but haven't played it yet (of course).

Well, I thought Blackwood Crossing looked innocent enough but I think I will have to abandon it. Besides the moving around making me sick, you are on a moving train and seeing movement on one or the other side of you. I don't like abandoning games but I have too many to play to keep making myself sick like this. I hope I have the strength to not go back to it, but ...

I haven't quite finished Voodoo Detective because I have had other commitments, but I'd say I am about 70% of the way through and finding it to be a very nice, solid game. Pretty much all the puzzles have been logical too, and reasonable. It was a good purchase, even more so since I got it on sale at GOG for less than four dollars.

I have Voodoo Detective from Steam but spent quite a bit more money than you did. It is already installed on my computer so maybe I will go ahead and play that now!

I just finished Who is Abby. I'm usually disappointed by modern first-person horror games, but this one was really good. Unfortunately, it was extremely bug-ridden.

Now I'm playing Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller episode 2, and Voodoo Detective will be next.

Good to hear what you're playing, Mikael! I had to look up Who is Abby as I never heard of it.

I have a number of games installed that I am hoping to replay soon-ish and Cognition is one of them. I think I played it shortly after it released. I just would like to play some new (or I should say unplayed even though a lot of them are already old) games that I have also though, since I can't seem to stop buying more of them.

The Cognition series are pretty decent games if you like classic 2D third person adventure games (and who doesn't on this forum?), and can accept a "creative" approach to inventory handling (which requires a multitude of extra mouse clicks, as those always do). Voice acting is top-notch. But did they really have to use the surname Reed for their detective female main character? lol

I also have Cognition from GOG and have never played it. I vaguely remember installing it when it first came out, but never got past the first few scenes. I just downloaded Episode 1, and I'm going to give it another try.

Let us know what you think of Episode 1, Uncle Reg.

Mikael, you are reminding me of the fact that I did start the first episode of Cognition years ago but only for about 15 minutes. The inventory mechanics confused me and indeed put me off the game; however, I was very tired after having had a long day at work and was therefore not at all receptive to trying to figure it out, so I abandoned it. I will try it again one of these days with a more patient and open mindset. smile

I think that the inventory in Cognition is manageable, but irritating and time consuming. It reminds me of what reviewer Ray Ivey at now defunct site Just Adventure wrote about "experimental" inventories: "Please game developers, this in NOT the area to get creative in". I totally agree.

I totally agree, too! And I always really enjoyed Ray Ivey's reviews. His sense of humor was great. Here is something he posted years ago that is now in our GameBoomers' Hall of Fame (which can only really be appreciated if you have played Black Dahlia).

I also remember him reviewing Phantasmagoria 2: A Puzzle of Flesh, and when describing the subject matter, he said something like, "Hey, with a title like that, I was not expecting The Brothers Karamazov." grin

Haha! Good old Ray. And good old Black Dahlia. It was (almost) as impossible as Ray implies, but still a good game. And had the funniest easter eggs ever.

I started Voodoo Detective yesterday. I've already gotten pretty far, since the game is relatively easy (which suits me just fine). It's very inspired by Grim Fandango. They've even hired the same composer for the soundtrack. I would have preferred more puzzles, since sometimes you just have to walk between characters and talk to them to progress the story. The dialogue is absolutely top notch. Some of the one-liners would have suited in any first rate Hollywood comedy film.

I started 3 Minutes To Midnight a few days ago - I was really liking it but it soon got to be very Dialog Heavy. I am a bit disappointed by that but I will continue. The graphics, story, and game play outweigh the dialog aspect of the game !

It's not the years honey, it's the mileage!

I still haven't gotten around to starting Voodoo Detective or any other Adventure. I guess I'm still sulking about Blackwood Crossing.

I am not a big fan of heavy dialogue either. I hope you are able to enjoy the game, sureshot!

I must have missed something... what happened with Blackwood Crossing, oldbroad? That looks like such a good game.

Gardens put to bed. Time for more reading and gaming.
