The exclamation mark had nothing to do with Dell... that's a function of the operating system, Windows 10 in your case. Just because it says it's operating correctly doesn't mean there isn't an updated driver out there!

Is this an eCollegePC? If so, then the network adapter brand should be listed in your invoice or it should indicate it in Device Manager. You should be able to update the driver from Device Manager. Or go to the manufacturer's website and see if there is an updated driver available. All the other listings under Network Adapters are for your ports.

Maybe take a look at this link.

Under Device Manager it shows: Intel (R) Ethernet connection (7) 1219 V The Driver Version is: 12.19.0.16 dated 9/29/20.

Please confirm if this is the right component, and can you please direct me to a correct driver?

I don't see anything on the eCollege invoice - maybe you can see it?:

Intel Gaming Series Configurator : Intel Core i7 9700 3.0Ghz (4.7Ghz Turbo) 12MB Cache Eight-Core | Stock Intel LGA1151 Heatsink and Fan | ASRock Z390 Pro4 (Intel Z390, HDMI, 2xPCI-E, 2xM.2, 6xSATA, 4xDDR4) | 32GB (16GBx2) DDR4 2666Mhz Memory Lifetime Warranty (Major Brand) | 2TB Intel 660p PCIe M.2 NVMe | 6TB Western Digital Black 7200RPM 128MB Cache SATA3 6Gbps | 24X LG SATA Dual Layer DVD /-RW/CDRW | 8GB Radeon RX 5700 GDDR6 PCI-E DP/HDMI (Major Brand) | Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64bit (Includes DVD + COA) | Microsoft Office 2019 Home and Business w/Power Point | Cooler Master MB600L (1 5.25 2 2.5 3 3.5 ) Fan, Audio/USB 3.0 | 750watt EVGA SuperNOVA P2 Modular 80 PLUS PLATINUM CERTIFIED | Onboard 1Gbit LAN included | Creative Sound Blaster Audigy FX 5 Channel PCIe Sound Card | Black Logitech MK120 Desktop Wired Keyboard and Mouse | Wires and Cables ran behind case and tied up for maximum airflow

Thank you for your help. I had looked at most of that stuff on the internet last night. It is mostly all Gibberish to me!

Yes, you have onboard 1 Gbit LAN for your network adapter. Since you have an Intel based motherboard, that's why is says Intel Ethernet connection. You don't have a WiFi adapter because you use a wired ethernet connection.

If you want to try updating the driver, this link tells you how to download and install.

I am seeing folks online with Windows 10/11 and having trouble with BSOD ndu.sys error messages, and then finding the culprit to be Malwarebytes' Premium Web Protection; at least, after they got rid of that, the BSOD stopped happening.

Not to confuse the issue here. Just something I found through googling that may have nothing to do with your problem. Troubleshooting this stuff can be a real pain.

Marian, I remember when that was happening about 5 years ago - 2020. As far as I know those issues were resolved at the Malwarebytes end. I'd have to do some searching to find out for sure.

So, you're saying you don't understand the instructions to download and install a new driver in that link, oldbroad? To be honest, I would consider taking it someplace for repairs then. I HATE troubleshooting network issues too!

Thanks Marian. I saw that about Malwarebytes also, and looked at my Malwarebytes but left the Web Protection on because what is the purpose of having the program and not using the Web Protection? I also saw something about renaming that ndu.sys but I'm not going there either.

The problem is that I'm afraid to do most of the stuff suggested anywhere because if it goes wrong and I make something worse, then what?

The BSOD's are all different and only this one had this further information on the "what", but some other things have led me to my Network stuff and also to my Memory. I want to use this computer for years to come even after I get my Windows 11 but I especially am hoping it lasts until that time anyway. If and when I ever get a new computer, I will probably take this in to Best Buy and let them do whatever with it, same as I did when I first got this computer - I took my Win 7 to them. However, I'm having trouble even looking at new computers. I don't see any that have Ethernet connection for one thing. And I would like an optical drive which I also don't see anymore. When I look, I get depressed and then I stop looking.

I am with you on fearing I'm going to mess something up! That's why I suggested you take it somewhere. Just realize all they will do is wipe the hard drive and start over from scratch. You would have to reinstall all your programs again.

If you are shopping brand names, you won't find any with optical drives. ALL will have ethernet connections as that's what most people use on desktops - it won't be listed as an extra because it is built into the motherboard. And sometimes it is listed as LAN. If you are looking at laptops, you may or may not find ethernet connection. If you are shopping at eCollege, you can get both. Melia just went through this and got a branded computer. She sent it back and ordered one from eCollege and got the optical drive she wanted.

I've looked at eCollege and haven't seen Ethernet or Optical Drives, unless he changed something since I last looked. I don't believe that most people use Ethernet these days. I don't know if I can use Wi Fi or whatever it would be if it isn't Ethernet. I don't know if that works in my home.

oldbroad, most people who use desktops use an ethernet connection. When I look at the "details" for any of the motherboards at eCollege, they show an ethernet port even if it's not listed in the main description.

Melia just messaged Mike and told him she wanted an optical drive, so he made sure she had a case that had a slot for one. I noticed in the configurator that when you click on the optical drive option, there are 4 listed - two internal drives and two external drives. That's the key - the case needs a place to install one. Many new cases don't have one. My case doesn't and I use an exterior optical drive. I don't use it very often, because all my games etc. are downloads, but if I need it, it's there. When she messaged Mike, he made sure she got everything she wanted.
