Hello to everyone. First off I have just started playing this game and am stuck in act#1 trying to get him to pick up the grease remover from under the kitchen table to put on the washing machine door to get his ID badge. He will not pick it up saying that he does not need it right now. I cannot move forward in the game.I think I did all that was required at this point to get the grease remover. I got the paper knife from the library, got the key from the maid's room, opened the chest in the maid's room, spoke to police who told me to get my ID, went back home and talked to Java although he didn't say much, went down to basement, got rubber gloves, picked up some kind of knickknack, looked at both cans and bottle on top of washer and tried to open washing machine door but need something to clean the grease off. What step have I missed? And the 2nd thing I would like to know is if there has been a thread already started by someone else on this game (if yes where?) so that I may read there first to get any answers when stuck before posting a question on this thread. Thanks!

Kiss I think the stuff you need is on a shelf next to the table. Also you can click on the word "search" at the top of this page and just type in the name of the game and click on the correct forum and you should have access to any other threads we still have about this game.
Good luck

Sue

By the way, the word search is under the white letters that say Post A Reply. wave

I think you have to be wearing the gloves to get the grease remover. Been a long time since I played it.

Last night I arrived back from a few day in Manhattan NY. It was marvelous!!!! Now about the game, I was able to get the grease but for some reason I had to go back to a previously saved game and get it wearing the gloves but without taking the knicknack first(?). I'm now off to meet Erica! Thank you both Sue and Cathy

Have fun Kiss. I'm glad Cathy remembered wearing the gloves because I sure didn't.

Hi All,
I am playing Crime Stories and have hit a snag.
I am at the part where Martin & Java have arrived in Veracruz. I have done everything~~dialogue with Rosalita & Pedro, tried the Prof.'s door, gotten stuff from the storeroom, clicked the box on the mule. He kicks the box then my cursor disappears. I can scroll left and right on my inventory but that is all. I can't pick up anything or move anywhere. The people are still moving, flags are waving, etc. What's wrong???? Anyone got any ideas or have the same problem????

Angel, I'm not sure exactly what to tell you to do. I do know that others had problems with the box part of the game but I don't remember what the solution was.
You might want to go back to a prior saved game and see if you can't get back to this spot without the glitch.

Hi,
I went back to a prior saved game and got to the part where I have trouble and it is still the same. I re-installed the game and started from the beginning and it is still the same. Do you know where I could find any threads on what others did to solve their problem with the box part? It is very frustrating not being able to continue.

Angel please post this dilemma in the Glitches forum and see if they might have an answer for you. I'm not finding any help for you right now.

Okay, I am having a similar problem. I can't put on the gloves to pick up the detergent. I see the detergent in the kitchen, but he says he doesnt need it or whatever, same thing when I try to put on the gloves. What's the knicknack, btw? Do you think I need to do something in the mansion first, I basically just talked to everybody, including the guard up top who said I need the ID. This is my first "adventure game", I pretty much bleep.

Hello jdpoker and welcome to Gameboomers welcome

Give me a few minutes, I'm not at all sure what the knicknack is. I'll edit this post and get back to you.
In adventure games you will need to talk to everyone about everything usually and if an item isn't nailed down........take it!
Did you click on the door of the washing machine?

Hi! Thanks for your help!

Yes, I did try to get into the washing machine (I hate when I can't open mine and get my pants!), but no dice, so I did pick up the gloves, but I can't put them on or pick up detergent. Frustrating.

Angel Girl,

Someone at Glitches posted a similar problem.
Read this and redo the sequence as Inferno stated HERE.

jdpoker,

First you have to know the reason why you need the stuff.
The policeman should ask for your ID after some converstaions.

So you look for your ID. Talk to Java at home. Look for your ID. Then you look at the washing machine while searching.
He should make a comment - dirt has jammed the window.
Then go to the kitchen to look for something to clean the dirty washing machine window.
Look under the kitchen table and look for a powerful substance bottle.

Okay I got it, I don't know why it wasn't working before, I had already learned that I needed the ID for the cop upstairs. I guess I need to go to the kitchen right after the washing machine, which I thought I did about 10 times, but it finally let me pick up the cleaner. Thanks for your help.

I need help again. I am on Act 6, where you cut the vines. I got the machete and cut the vines. Diana can't move the rocks. I am cheating my way through this game and the hints say to ask Java to move them, but he just keeps grunting. Any suggestions?

Hi jdpoker. There is a hiccup in the game with the vines that has happened to numerous people playing the game. If you can't get Java to pick up the head and place it on the platform, please go back to a saved game and try again. This time try cutting the vines on the right side first and see if you can't get Java's help with the head before you cut the vines on the left side.
Good luck

Sue

That did the trick, and I reached the end. Kind of a dumb game for my first, and I didnt like the hiccups. Yet I still want to try another one. Thanks for your help, I don't know how anyone can get through something like that game without hints, especially when some glitch makes what you are doing seem incorrect when it really is the right move.
