Hi all, As promised, here is the thread for this years top 13 Dark Side recommendations. The object for any boomers in the dark is to recommend to other boomers non-adventure games that you believe worthy of playing in this day and age. Plenty of people venture over here and don't know what to play, me included. The games may be your all time favourites, but they need not be. I loved Quake at the time and I still think of it highly but I wouldn't recommend it today. We then compile a final list as a resource for other players. The rules are fairly simple. 1. You can recommend a maximum of 13 games, but you can recommend less. 2. You can't list a series, unless you use single votes for each game. 3. Expansion packs will be considered seperate games, on the basis that the original might be ordinary but an expansion pack superb. 4. Any game that is not pure adventure can be listed, irrespective of genre. 5. You don't have to indicate the type or genre, and you are not limited to any specific number of games in any genre. Go ahead and list 13 rpg's if you choose. 6. It is essentially a pc list, but given that many players have consoles as well, if you want to list games for the console go right ahead. Please use full titles where possible as I am not as familiar with titles and series over here as I am with the light side games. Add ons and expansions might confuse me but I will shout if clarification is needed. We will keep the list open for about 2 weeks and with help from a mucky the list will also be categorised for genre, at least down to those with multiple recommendations. I will post later - Oblivion is still a work in progress! Lets go

Thanks again for volunteering your time - it's a wonderful list to have! HERE is a link to last year's choices (go to the thread's last page for the winners).

Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine
Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit

Well I'm not usually one of the first to do anything but I have a list of sorts so will submit it. Probably pretty much the same as last year with maybe one or two exceptions. Blood Rayne KOTOR KOTOR 2 Morrowind Oblivion Dungeon Lords Gothic Divine Divinity Sacred Gold Tomb Raider 2 No One Lives Forever Betrayal In Antara (For those of you who are unfamiliar with this one it would be worth checking into. Many hours of enjoyment with turn based combat)Diablo Hellfire (My first action adventure game took me a while to learn)

flotsam, hi, For some reason, this seems easier than the Light Side list, even though you have less choices to proffer. Here goes: 1. Fallout 2. Fallout 2 3. Planescape: Torment 4. Realms of the Haunting 5. Deus Ex 6. Half-life 7. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 8. Morrowind 9. Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura 10. Divine Divinity 11. Diablo II 12. Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn 13. Oblivion Cheers, MetzO'Magic P.S. Mine was the 13th reply. Lucky me

I've never voted on any games before so here goes. I have only ten that seemed good enough to play more then once. All are PC RPG's in the order give (best to least).
1. Divine Divinity 2. Morrowind 3. Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines 4. Knights Of The Old Republic 5. Knights Of The Old Republic 2 6. The Bards Tale 7. Neverwinter Nights 8. Neverwinter Nights 2 9. Silent Hill 3 10. Heretic Kingdoms: Inquistition
Everyone has a photographic memory...some just don't have any film. Mine was over exposed.

P.S. Mine was the 13th reply. Lucky me Hi Steve, I wish I'd thought of that. Was it on purpose or coincidental?

1. Zanzarah 2. Might and Magic 6 3. Anvil of Dawn 4. Jurassic Park Operation Genesis 5. Darklands 6. Ultima Underworld 7. Baldur's Gate 2 8. Divine Divinity 9. Realms of the Haunting 10. Quest for Glory 4 11. Veil of Darkness 12. Fate 13. Ghost Master Whew! Once again, there were many more competing for my consideration. John, I haven't played Betrayal in Antara yet (I have it right here), but it would appear that getting it to behave in Windows XP is problematic. Have you run the game with Windows XP?

John, I haven't played Betrayal in Antara yet (I have it right here), but it would appear that getting it to behave in Windows XP is problematic. Have you run the game with Windows XP? I have an older PC with win 98 loaded to play older games so I haven't tried Antara on XP. (In fact I haven't played it in years). However, the expert on XP compatibility (metzomagic) just posted above so maybe he'll see this post and give us a hint.

oldman, hi, (just coincidental that I was the 13th poster, BTW) Hmm. Betrayal in Antara. Don't have it myself, so hard to tell. Released in 1997, that means Compatibility Mode for Win 95 ought to do it in XP, else you're outta luck... The hardest games to get running in XP are the ones made between 1996 and 2000. They were all striving to get the most performance they could out of Win 95/98, broke a lot of the unwritten Win 32 API rules, and so... luck of the dice roll with these ones, really. Edit: just checked on www.ntcompatible.com. Looks like it will run in XP but that you need to have your screen resolution set to 640 x 480 and also use a PC slowdown progam like Turbo or else the game crashes often in combat. Regards, MetzO'Magic

Hi all - that time of the year again already - of the games I've played, I recommend the following: 1. Morrowind 2. Gothic 2 3. GTA - San Andreas 4. Gothic 5. Baldur's Gate 2 6. Baldur's Gate 7. Divine Divinity 8. NWN - not so much for the official campaign but for the engine that powers user made modules Morrowind with mods is far and away the best game I've played/still play. There are also lots of games I have yet to play which appear regularly on other lists and would probably also be on mine
