I am trying to get Alter Ego to run on my PC, but after I install the game I get the error message alter ego has stopped working windows will check for problems and inform you. I have even uninstalled my AVG Anti Virus but I still get the same results, I am running Windows 7 Professional, any help greatly received

I'm beginning to get the impression that the game just isn't ready for prime time. Many folks are experiencing issues with it.

Is there a specific error message or does it just fall back to the desktop (with the error you mentioned above)?

Edit -

It might help to know a bit about the PC. Can you post your specs (including your driver versions for Video, Sound and DirectX).

Had the same problem and same message. Win 7 installs in program files. Try installing somewhere else,
solved the problem with me. Enjoying the game, runs with no other issues at all. Hope you can get it to run. wave

Where did you install, Upsydaisy? In My Documents or somewhere else?

Hi
I installed it straight to programme files on my internal Hard Drive, All my drivers are up to date, the PC has just had a new Motherboard and Processor in the last month, processor is a Dual Core Intel, my Graphics card is an Nvidia 8800GT 512Mb and I have a Sound Blaster Autodigy Card, Upsydaisy are you saying install the game to an external Hard Drive (which I have) and try running the game from there, its really bugging me this windows 7, I have quite a few games that I would like to play again but I cant because windows 7 does not support them. I got this game States side so I am very frustrated I cant get the game to run
Cheers

If you install an older game into your C:\Program Files folder on Windows 7, the game is apt to have problems because Windows 7 is very protective of what it allows in the C:\Program Files folder. Try installing to your user's Documents folder instead.

There should be an option to browse to another area where you want to install the game.

Is there any point where it asks you if you want a "custom install?"

I doubt it. Any registry changes that the game made would still be pointing to the old location in C:\Program Files.

Hi All
I received a reply back from Viva Media, with the suggestion of running the game in XP compatability mode and as Administrator, all to no avail, it is really frustrating the Games Manufactures and Publishes as selling games with known Window 7 problems, If anybody else has a solution to my problem I would be most greatful
Cheers

You might try installing it in Compatibility Mode. I've gotten a couple of games to work by doing that when simply playing in Compatibility Mode didn't work.

Uninstall the game; then put the disk in your drive and close any autorun popups. Navigate to the disk and fine the setup or installation file. Right click the file and select Troubleshoot Compatibility and follow the prompts. You might try XPSP2 compatibility first.

If you haven't checked out the list of games we are getting to run in Win 7, you might want to take a look at it. Windows 7 and Games

Hi Draclvr
I have tried installing it with using the XPSP3 Compatability Mode and checked the Administrator box, I will give it a shot with SP2

I sure hope one of these works for you... Wasn't this game just released in 2010? If so, the developers really goofed up on this one.

You might also consider running CCleaner on the registry to make sure all traces of the former installation are gone.

I couldn't get it running either, Draclvr. And I think the problem is caused by SecuROM.

Hi Draclvr

I uninstalled my Anti Virus and ran Ccleaner, it picked up a couple of errors in the Registry for Viva Media, I checked the fix issues and they where resolved, I then installed the game using Campatibility XPSP2 and run as Administrator and I thought I had cracked it as the splash screen came up with Play etc options, I clicked play and you have guessed it 'Alter Ego has stopped working' etc. I am now at a total loss of where to go with this game
Cheers

PS has anyone ran this game using Vista, as my daughter's laptop has it??

Ah, SecuROM strikes again. How unfortunate.

I got the same thing in XP except there was no message. It just froze at a black screen after I clicked Play.

They're only protecting their intellectual property - after all, who'd want to make a copy of a game that's already been cracked, but can't be played out of the box. hardwall

Hope springs eternal; someday they'll come to their senses.

Is your game on a disc? I downloaded mine from Adventure Shop-3 big files-received an activation code. I have copied the game to a DVD and I can also download and re-install up to 6 times if I wish.
My computer has similar specs to yours and apart from having to install to My docs have had no problems at all. Maybe the problem is with the disc version and things were ironed out on the download??

Unfortunately no, I haven't purchased the game yet. The only SecuRom solutions are for the German version of the game.

Upsydaisy,
Safc has already bought the DVD version.
Apparently the best way to get this game is by Steam, which will allow unlimited downloads.
