Venus,
I know what you mean about KQ8. It was totally different than the previous Kings Quest games. It was the only Kings Quest game that I did not enjoy. I felt the same way about Simon the Sorcerer 3. It was more of an arcade/action game than an adventure game to me. I forget the title but I loved the first two Indiana Jones games but I think the third one went more of an action route too.
It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

Space Quest, have you played the Broken Sword series, and if so, how did you feel about Broken Sword 3? I'm really enjoying the first and would like to get the rest of the series eventually, but some things I've heard about the action in the third game make me nervous. Yes, I definitely agree with you on the King's Quests - loved the first seven, didn't care for the eight at all. I'm loving The Silver Lining now, though, and hope it brings better closure to the series.

Venus, Keep in mind that BS3 is keyboard (or game controller) controlled and has lots of timed sequences. Although the game automatically restores you to a point before you died, it sometimes puts you back before a very long, unskippable cut scene that you have to sit through before trying again. If you get BS3, I recommend getting a DRM-free version from ***GOG*** or ***DotEMU***. Looks like it's currently a dollar cheaper at DotEMU.

Jenny, how hard would you say the timed sequences are compared to, say, Dreamfall?

Venus,
It has been a long time since I played Broken Sword 3. I loved the first two games and I remember at least one timed sequence but it really was not a problem. Overall I would say that the first two games were more enjoyable for me than the third game though. It is not like I didn't enjoy 3 but I felt like the plot of the first two games was really superior to BS3.
It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

Lazydaisy, you can avoid that fight sequence in the hotel if you're quick enough and know the pattern. I always do. The first time I played, he caught me, and I was able to beat him by some fluke. Have never been able to do it since, though, so I always avoid that fight. Thanks for the info, Space Quest and lazydaisy! I never had too much problem with Dreamfall's mandatory timed sequences once I got used to them, so I'm thinking this won't be a problem. I have a tendency to want to complete all games in a series once I start one. KQ8 being the exception, of course.

Jenny, how hard would you say the timed sequences are compared to, say, Dreamfall? It's been a long while since I played BS3, but I don't remember it being as bad as Dreamfall. There isn't any combat, just places where you have to act fairly quickly. The really annoying one was where you had to sit through the long cut scene every time you missed. I tended to fall asleep or zone out during the cut scene and then I'd miss the timed sequence again because my mind had wandered.

The changing camera angles "mid scene" during the worst of the ghastly timed sequences (the one Jenny100 mentions) coupled with what I found to be unwieldy keyboard controls, absolutely ruined the game for me Yes, the story and graphics of BS3 were good but the action sequences, in my opinion, definitely weren't And I found the timed action sequences of BS4 similarly frustrating, although not quite to the same degree

Stinking Island! That was the exact same name I gave it while I was playing it. Although I did rather enjoy it anyway, despite the frustrations. Playing Paradise twice surely earns you some kind of a medal. Rarely have I played a game and so curled my lip in displeasure at it while doing so.

rushes , that's exactly the thing i find myself doing with mysterious island 2 ! curling my lip as i play , thinking this is so idiotic ! i really hope i 'm almost done ,because it's hard to believe it could be any less fun. see - i haven't ripped it out yet ,but i may if i don't win this mud fight w/slugger ( or whatever he's flinging ) i'm finding it harder to care whether the island blows up , because the puzzles/challenges aren't my cup of tea. and yet , i loved the first game ! i think maybe it's very hit or miss with sequels. i think the developers try to give us an even better game , and in so doing , they "break " the things that made us love it. or maybe they surpass the level we want to relax with. i dunno...

Oh yes, I've lost interest lost of times because I am incredibly picky, and get bored very easily. I'm finding it harder nowadays to find games that really appeal to me.

I remember Dreamfall (I have it, somewhere, but haven't played it) Keepsake I tried, but didn't like it, sinking Islands, tried that one too. To much walking around. Atlantis evolution wasn't bad I think. I really can't tell the numbers of games I have laying around and haven't played or only attempted to play but failed (out of boredom , or out of having to much walking around to do). Delaware st.John for instance, all the equipment you had to use... Can a ghost not have a bit of privacy? Mabye he or she is camera shy too? Or it? (Almost forgot the "it" category!) robert

Any Myst or Myst clone games. Can't stand those I like a strong story line, character interaction, great graphics and 3rd person. Could never get into any of the game types above (Myst and the clones that is). As soon as I see 1st person with tons of exploration and puzzle on top of puzzle on top of puzzle that's it for me.Then there's the classic of badness games, the most bug ridden horible game in existance Forever World, The Scroll (I don't think I'd better comment on that one, might open a whole other can of worms)and Carte Blanche (the most G*d awfull voices in the history of adv games).

I lost interest very quickly in the last Nancy Drew game Shadow at Waters edge. That is the first ND game that I never finished. I love Nancy Drew games but the last few have been less than stellar. I sure hope that they get back to the original format and can all of those silly minigames! Or at least put in a skip button.
