Does the brass piece on the left side of the picture move? That's a toughie

Is it the inside of a portable radio?

Is it some sort of tray that a sewer would use to hold pins, bobbins, etc

Is it some kind of lamp, a stretch I know, but the center looks like a shade.

Is that a thermometer hanging on the outside of what appears to be a case? If so, I will guess at a weather station of some kind?
