L4L, in the end it was a system restore. I had everything working except Internet Explorer. Oddly enough, I could still access Steam, Uplay and my email. And obviously the malware had been removed since there were no more popups forcing their way to the fore. I might have been able to work out the IE problem. But I'd had enough, so I just restored my system, re-downloaded stuff, and got on with it.
Rowan, I just realized that I need to get some food before I venture into the lighthouse, so I'll head back to town, go shopping, and come back out.
Have you found any low-level trainers yet?
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Hagatha, you need food from the inn so you can sleep outside of town. Sleep doesn't work if you have no food. Get lots of health and mana potions for mid fight sustenance. I found that I had to limp out of the lighthouse after each level to restock. Yes, there are some trainers here: Trainers

I also worked out how to level up my characters. Now what I have left is a couple of boss fights, the two Sirens, and a Cyclops. I hope there are random encounters for experience points. Anyway, my party is finally equipped well enough to get by.
Now, in other MM games, you could collect a LOT of food, so you could go for many days without having to return to civilization. You could also find food while out adventuring. I hope there's an opportunity to increase number of food units carried, or at least the opportunity to find food out in the wild. Actually, if I remember correctly different inns sold different amounts of food, so that may happen here, too.
So far, pretty enjoyable, though. I always did like MM games.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Hagatha, have you figured out how to cross the rivers? It says you need a blessing or something from someone first, but that doesn't help me.
The road to Seahaven is blocked. When you leave Castle Porymeyron, You go west to the river and then a couple of squares north and you'll find a bridge. Cross the bridge and Seahaven is to the north. You can also get a lot of information for the game at The gamepressure site Later on you're going to run into a quest where you have to fight a crystal spider which is one of the roughest fights of the game (in my opinion) There is a really good cheat for this game which I had to use for the above fight. If you're into cheats information on how to open it can be found here.

Hi oldman I visited the site you gave the link for and can see how to open the console - but I can't find any actual cheat codes - there or anywhere else By cheat codes, I mean stuff like "open the console and type GOD" etc. And I apologise in advance if the codes are right under my nose and I'm not seeing them but would definitely appreciate your help Cheers. Mad you have to open your M&MX folder in your my documents. There you have to create a file called "global3.lsg". Once that is created then while in game just hit Ctrl+Alt+C and the console will pop up. After that it is pretty self explanatory. Although there is no God Mode, during combat you can click on "reset condition" which will keep you healthy You can also add potions to keep you in health and mana.
I didn't know how to create a file myself but fortunately there was a file already named global2.lsg and I just copied it and renamed it. If you have problems getting the file created, email me and I'll send you one.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, oldman My game hasn't arrived yet (I ordered a boxed edition) but as I've never played a "grid" style RPG before, I'm amassing as much help as I can in advance - to be ready - because I'm sure I'll need plenty !! Anyway, I'm very grateful you have been able to help, even at this stage in my proceedings, and I've copied and saved all the info you've provided so far Cheers. Mad

Mad, the grid style is easy enough to get used to, and it's quite effective with the decent graphics in the game. You basically have forward, backward and side to side movement, and you can turn around, but you have no diagonals. In the end, it is simplicity itself to work with.
The last grid-based game I played was the Legend of Grimrock, and it was really fun, if you want to check out another one.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Thank you, hagatha I'm playing Broken Sword 5 at the moment but could very well start M&M after I'm finished with that. I do enjoy RPGs but I'm a real fighting " wimp" !! So it's always been fantastic to know I can dash here to Gameboomers and beg for help when I need some - and I have no doubt I will again with M&M Legacy !!

The fighting in MM is pretty simple; it's turn-based, and you just tell the computer which action you want for each character in turn, be it a spell, a bow shot, a sword slash, or drinking a potion. Or even using a turn to back away. There is no gyrating and hacking and dodging (well, there is dodging, but it is a passive skill that always applies to characters who have the trait).
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I'm completely stuck. I have no way out of this area, and I can't gain any more experience.
What castle quest are you referring to? I have no castle quest listed anywhere.
I've completed the Lighthouse, and the Spiders, but I can't find any new areas to go to, other than the ones I can't do, like the Cyclops and the Dragon. I simply cannot find any other areas to go to.
EDIT: You know I'm wondering if my game is bugged. I am supposed to talk to Rosalie in the Temple but there is no Rosalie in the temple. She is supposed to come with my party to do the Thief quest. But since she doesn't exist....?

Hagatha you get the Castle quest the same place you got the spider quest. it's called the Rocky way to Portmeyron.
As far as Rosalie is concerned, when you go to the temple you have two icons at the top of the screen. One is Rosalie you have to click on her to talk to her.

EDIT:
I'm starting again. Something is wrong. It is the same place that you got the spider quest. When you first come to town from the ship, it's the first building on the right.

But, I've been in the Garrison several times, and the only person there is the Orc. I've re-done the Thieves, and that worked out, but I have been in every building in town and I get no Castle quest.
I just think something must be wrong. Is there an order to do the quests? I've done the Spiders, and I have Lost Lambs, I have the Bestiary, I have the Lighthouse, but no Castle Quest, no Portmeyron quest. I just went back to the Garrison to see if I missed anyone, but no, there is only the Orc, and he is not handing out any more quests.

Okay, got it. Not sure why, but the first time through I didn't get the castle quest after I completed the Lighthouse. Anyway, it's all moving forward now.
Okay, I have completed the Lighthouse, Thieves and Castle quest, but the Bridge to Seahaven is still blocked. Now what do I have to do?
Edit: Okay, figured it out.
So, my thoughts on this game are that it's a lot of fun, but I still prefer VI and VII by a long shot. This is like a mini-version of those games, with tiny, cramped little areas instead of the massive game locales and endless quests. In the previous games you really got the sense that you were travelling for ages (partly, duh, because you were). Some of the quests took you all over the map and took ages to finish. And I get the feeling that this game will be relatively short in comparison. Also, the silly humour is missing.
Rowan, if you like this game you would probably love MM VII. Which I might have to load up again soon...
Edit again: Well, I have to say that this game is starting to get up my nose. There is no way to flee combat, which is quite the egregious mistake, I think. In the original game you could move around in combat, too, which was great for combat strategy. Here, you're just glued in place, able to spin around, but nothing else.
I just got stuck in a "combat" situation in which there were no enemies, just the combat music. With no way to move away from the alleged combat, the game was effectively stuck and I lost my last two very difficult kills.
