They took off more then 8 liters of fluid off her belly yesterday. She is feeling better today and even put on some make-up. Easy day for her today, just breathing exercises and food. Vince says she doesn't have an option about eating. Still no diagnosis yet but it is encouraging.

My prayers, Bets...
Why is she retaining water in the stomach? Did they check her liver?

Praying she continues to improve Bets and you get some answers as to what is causing the fluid to build up.

Had a nice chat with Susie yesterday. I was surprised when she called. Still nothing definite yet. Haven't heard anything yet today.
Edit: Just heard from Vince. Physical therapy today and the last round of antibiotics. Doctors will be in later.

Diagnosis: Cirrhosis of the liver. Plans are to have her moved to a assisted living unit where she can get physical therapy and occupational therapy. This till she gets strong enough to go home. She will be on a low salt high protein diet and medication. This all could take place today or tomorrow, depending upon finding a place where she can get the therapy she needs. She will probably have to have fluid taken off periodically and check ups with the liver specialist. Down the road, she may need a liver transplant. Long ways away though if she follows her diet and everything else. This is just mind boggling. At least we know what we are dealing with. I want to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers. Don't know what I would do without you all. Love ya. Bets

I hope the treatment helps her heal quickly. Do they have any idea why so she can control it? It's usually a secondary disease. At least they know what it is so she can get help. Hugs to you all!

I hate to hear it, but at least they have a diagnosis and now can make a plan. Will pray that it is effective and she is better soon. Hugs to you all.

Mind boggling is the only way to describe it - but at least a diagnosis allows for an actual plan of treatment. Sound like the prognosis is a long, but treatable road. Onwards!

A few post back. I did mention the liver. Fluid retention in the abdomen is signs of liver problems. My brother-in-law had the same thing.
My prayers for Susie.. Hang in there Bets. <HUGS>
