Hi smile

I've had this game for ages but after reading a couple of reviews am wondering whether I could actually cope with it eek

I think I can manage the mouse/keyboard mix of controls but ....

Can I save whenever I want to ??

Is there a great deal of jumping and stuff ??

Is there much timed stuff ??

And can I die ??

Much appreciate any advice grin

Cheers.

I think so. It's worth a try.

Not really. The game keeps track of what you've done, but it will not save your location. Once you get past the introductory part and get to your Relto, the game always starts in your Relto. You can touch the Journey Cloths you find around the Ages and they act sort of like save points. After starting in your Relto, you can link to the last Journey Cloth you touched.

Not really. The required jumps aren't really all that hard as jumps go, and there certainly aren't nearly as many of them as in games like Tomb Raider. But there is a long wait if you miss your jump and fall in a pit. You have to wait for your Relto Age to load, then link back to the Age where you missed your jump, then wait for that Age to load.

There are puzzles that require timing. There is also a bucket puzzle that requires you to run to it.

Quote:
And can I die ??

No. The only thing that can kill you is if you fall in a pit, and when you do that your character always links back to Relto. Momentum is not conserved, so you don't splat. So you don't really die. But in a sense it's like dying because you have to start from your last save point.

Definitely try the game if your computer can handle it. But if your processor is slow, you'll be looking at some long load times.

Hi Jenny100 smile

Thanks for such a fast reply cool

I'm not sure I understand everything you are telling me but hopefully things will make more sense soon.
Although not being able to save when I want to definitely sounds a bit ominous eek

I have just played a little .... spoken to someone at a caravan, seen a windmill of sorts and then started to explore a "pit".

Couldn't find how to save my progress though so had to just "quit".

I guess I'll have to do all that over again ??

Have to stop for now but will have another go later grin

Cheers.

Mad,
You're on the right track smile.
You won't have to start everything over again. As Jenny100 said, the game "remembers" your progression. The only thing is you will always start from the same point you started the game at first - but everything you did is remembered.
However, again, the desert bit is a sort of introduction to the game itself. Once passing it, you'll start your game in another age called "Relto". I don't want to spoil, you'll discover that on your own.
Btw, the game is *filled* with infromation. Much of it wouldn't make much sense probably. I'm a big fan of the series and I still don't understand a lot smile.
Have fun with it! It's a beautiful game IMO.

There's definitely definitely definitely no logic to human behaviour.

Hi MAD:

I think this game is really great but I did need a fair amount of help which is easily obtained on this forum. I would suggest you look into Myst online URU Live(MOUL). It is the same game but over the internet at Gametap. New episodes are added monthly and you get the added bonus of playing the game with others if you like.

Mad...when you first begin URU if you check play in 'windows/windowed mode' and then just minimize URU when you want to quit you won't have to start the very first bit all over again. It takes some time to do it. HOWever, once you get into the Tree (you'll see) then you can uncheck play in windows/windowed mode...because then you will have your Relto going for you.!
NOw...over all i liked the game. But i am still not a fan of timed action seqences nor of jumping!

Hi Folks smile

Thanks for your advice thumbsup

I will see what happens then when I go back to the game again. [Haven't had time yet grin]

I should add that I am NOT a Myst fanatic. The only one in the series I liked enough to play all through was Myst III (Exile) shame

Cheers lol

EDIT :
I have played quite a bit more now and have to admit I like it bravo

Mad you might want to use a walkthru as a guide. It can be very helpful in a game like URU. I loved it. Have fun and Good Luck!

Mad,if you start it you will finish.
I think this is one of the most under rated games ever.
I love to just walk around all the worlds.
Give it a try................Ron

I had a tough time with those buckets too when I first played Uru. Now it seems much easier, but am usually tense until I get past it in replay. Love the rest of that Age. Those giant mushrooms are so cool! ^_^
