There are a number of RAM calculators online.
I usually use the one at Crucial.com
If you go there and look up Dell 4600, you get ***this***.

Look at their recommended RAM and that tells you the specs of the RAM you need, which is
Quote:
• DDR PC2700
• CL=2.5
• Unbuffered
• NON-ECC
• DDR333
• 2.5V
• 128Meg x 64

You can order the RAM from Crucial or get it somewhere else, like Newegg. This type of memory should be added in pairs, which is why Crucial sells it that way (2x1GB = 2GB).

I'd suggest you add more than 1 GB of memory.
2 GB would be fine for XP.
