I have a BUNCH of older computer games, all adventure games. I really haven't played much of any games lately, and I'm wondering: are they worth anything to sell?

There's no simple answer to that question; it depends on the game, the condition it is in, and whether it is boxed and complete (instruction manuals, etc). Some older games are easy to find while others are more rare.

Maybe you could advertise them on the Trading Post here at Gameboomers, Mary ??

If you follow the Trading Post Conditions as to how to describe them you ought to get a good idea from any responses what might sell for you

See what Amazon is selling them for. I've often researched older games there but haven't hit paydirt yet.

Ebay is also good to sell old games, at least in the UK it is, sold quite a few there myself.

Mary, sad to say but the resale value for the vast majority of PC games has kind of cratered since about 5 years ago. I think it is due to the rising popularity of digital download sites like Steam that make buying/installing PC games so much easier now with how they auto patch and all that. Plus, so few people know how to get many older PC games working. Some still hold collector value, but it is a vastly shrunken number now. There are a lot of classic games that were fetching hundreds of dollars that now fetch maybe $15.

One website I stumbled across that might help you find out value of certain titles is

Just type the name of the game in, and it will query both ebay and amazon to see the median price sold for both new and used, as well as how frequently the game shows up there. It does not have all the games though. A number of rarer PC titles are not known to the site. Anyways, hope it helps.

Yes, Mary and Lakerz, the loss of resale value appears to be the case, to my limited knowledge.

I was astonished to find lots of second-hand classic Cryo/Adventure Company/Microïds/Kheops/Ubisoft games on Amazon now for the symbolic price of just 1 cent! This means you really only pay for packaging and shipping, and the reseller just wants to get rid of them. Compatibility issues with newer platforms obviously also plays a part.

These include complete versions with original case and booklets. There are even new ones, factory-sealed (supposedly), for less than a dollar/pound/euro.

Incidentally, I recently even bought a new hardbound book on Amazon for 1 cent. DVDs are going the same way, just getting dumped for almost nothing.

It also has to do with the cutthroat competition between all these online stores, which are actually often making losses for a number of years, and the influence of comparison sites. If one offers a game for $5, another will sell it at $4 and so on. I recently submitted a 'reasonable packaging' review for an Amazon reseller. They took this as 'negative comment' and refunded me half the price! Crazy, really.

It does seem physical media are on the way out, sad to say, and only some of them classify as genuine collector's items.
