Hi all I thought this year I would just spring it on you!! In case you have forgotten or are new, our annual list provides the answer to the question "If I want to play an adventure game, what would you recommend". So long as you think a game you have played is worth recommending to someone else to play, put it on your list. But only if its an adventure game. Don't fret if you aren't sure that it is an adventure game - there is some latitude for those fuzzy round the edges games that are hard to define. There are some rules: 1. Games in our Hall of Fame are ineligible, on the basis that we know they are worth playing else why would they be in there. Votes for those games won't be counted. Those games are: Amerzone Black Mirror Dark Fall: The Journal Gabriel Knight: The Beast Within Grim Fandango Longest Journey Lost Crown Myst Riven Sanitarium Syberia Syberia 2 Timelapse Zork Nemesis Zork Grand Inquisitor 2. You can recommend a maximum of 20 games. You can choose to recommend less. 3. You cannot recommend a series. If you want to recommend all the Tex Murphy games, that will take 6 (is it still six??) separate recommendations, one for each game. 4. Episodic adventures will be counted as one game, regardless of where they are up to in the series. 5. Uru and its add ons will be counted as one game. 6. BadMojo and the Redux version are one game. 7. Directors cuts and Special Releases will be counted as the same game. 8. Adventure games only (Dark Side games and Casual games get their own lists). 9. PC games please (although if you sneak a console game in I won't tell) 10. Voting for Isabelle won't count as one of your votes, so you effectively get 21 (I am convinced its actually everyones 21st recommended game so this will help find out) If at all possible, please list in alphabetical order - it makes counting so much easier. In doing so, ignore "the" (so The Dark Eye would be under "D" for Dark) The thread stays open for about 3 weeks, (final results will be posted on the last day of July)and I will (endeavour to) post updates as we go. Also, avoid editing your lists after posting because Chief and I count as we go, and may miss a change. Who wants to be first?

Venus, I always check your list to find new games because I know we enjoy the same type of games.

Space Quest, since you have Dreamfall on your list, I would definitely recommend Chapters. It has gameplay similar to Dreamfall (though thankfully without the fighting and [very little] stealth) yet with the detail and character depth of the original Longest Journey. Zoë and Kian are both nicely fleshed out in Chapters, much more so than in Dreamfall. And Life is Strange reminds me very much of TLJ as well with an eighteen year old photography student (April was an art student. Coincidence? ) who discovers she has an unusual, universe altering power. Both games are fantastic so far, and both are up to their respective third episodes. Regarding your list, I love The Dig! I wanted to include it as well, but there just aren't enough slots, even with twenty spaces. I was torn between it and Overclocked for the last slot but finally went with Overclocked since Martin Ganteföhr has a new game coming out soon. I'm grateful for the Hall of Fame because there are seven games on that list that would take up more spaces, which would mean more games I would have to eliminate.

OK. I started with a long, long list of favourites but have very painfully whittled it down to the 20 allowed [And I offer no excuses for the oldies I've included because they are all fantastic Adventures ] Plus, of course, many thanks to you both - flotsam and Chief - for giving your time to this project !! Venus, Just from your description Chapters is now a must for me. Mobieus sounds interesting too. I love Jane Jensen and I think I have confused it with Morpheus in the past (which I really liked). I even loved the music in The Dig. Mad, Black Dahlia was a good one that I forgot.
It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

Oh, the music of "The Dig" was absolutely spectacular for an Adventure game at that time - and it still holds up splendidly today The Dig is one my many "oldie replay" games BUT regardless of all that, we're going to get told off if we're not careful for veering off topic !!!!

Hello All
I've limited myself to ten adventure games that I'd put on any 'happy holiday list' (and I haven't included my own!).
Barrow Hill The Journeyman Project – Legacy of Time Kairo Last Half of Darkness: Tomb of Zojir Lighthouse Morpheus Myst III: Exile Rhem Riddle of the Sphinx The Vanishing of Ethan Carter
I have really enjoyed playing these, as well as most of those on the existing main list. Elen

About the Dreamfall games, please say if it is The Longest Journey or The Chapters. Space Quest Fan: I assume yours is the Longest Journey? Thanks for telling us. Chief EDIT: Oups, just read your other post. Longest Journey it is.

flotsam,
What do you think about maybe next year we could have everyone also cast one vote for an older game for Hall of Fame induction? That way maybe a Monkey Island, Gabriel Knight, Tex Murphy etc. game could make our HOF.
It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

@Space Quest, let me know what you think of Chapters when/if you play it. Personally, I think it's one of the best games I've played, and I'm not at all biased. I think Moebius is a great game. Not everyone liked it, and I do think it was the least of Jane Jensen's adventure games, but I don't think it deserved all the negativity it got by a long shot. I always make sure to recommend it for those who might be interested. It does have the feeling of the beginning of a series, so be warned if you like it, you may get attached to the characters and want more. @Thorsgoats, glad to see you made it to post your list.

Thanks for your time and efforts, flotsam and Chief. It's always fun to remember the games I've played over the last year and compare them to the great games from the past. I agree with Mad that getting down to 20 recommended games is painful:
AGON 4: The Lost Sword of Toledo The Book of Unwritten Tales Broken Sword 1: Shadow of the Templars Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse Culpa Innata
Disc World Noir Dreamfall: The Longest Journey Gabriel Knight 3: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned Gabriel Knight 1: Sins of the Father Gray Matter
Machinarium Moebius: Empire Rising A New Beginning Paradise Rhiannon: Curse of the Four Branches
Secret Files 1: Tunguska Sinking Island Tex Murphy: Pandora Directive Tex Murphy: The Tesla Effect Yoomurjak's Ring
I'm hoping Kentucky Route Zero will be fully released by next year, because it will definitely have a shot at making it on my list (though that will mean a year to ponder what game gets bumped off).
I point, therefore I click.
