I installed and played a little of The vanishing of Ethan Carter and then I un-installed it~
now I installed it again and it won't play?
what is wrong? I need help? Thank you~Doc

Where did you get it from?
Is it from a place that needs activation or a client running in the background?

Do you need to add the game's .exe to your antivirus's exclusions list?

What background programs do you have running?
Is there anything that might interfere with the game?

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling again?

And run CCleaner on the registry just in case there are remnants there.

Is there a specific error you see? Or does the game just fail to launch?

I got the game from GOG
I will try all your ideas and let you know if it works~ their is a error message~ I have to go

Someone on the ***Steam Forum*** had the same error, and found that the way to fix it was to disable anti-aliasing.

Hi fellow Boomers,
I disabled anti-aliasing, also vertical sync, and it still doesn't run for me. At the menu screen, when I click on "Start new game", all I get is a black screen with three white dots at bottom right of screen. PC then freezes and I have to manually turn off my PC. Steam as well as the developer have never answered my requests for support for this game. According to the specs, my PC exceeds the minimum requirements. So that's my story.

Sandy, I am reading that it's hit or miss as to whether or not this game will run on Windows XP. I realize that's no help whatsoever, but it's all I can find. That's disappointing that you never heard back from Steam; that's not right.

Yeah, that's what I read too - it's hit or miss if you have XP, but mostly that is is not compatible with XP.

Thanks, Marian and Draclvr. Yes, it IS too bad, and Steam refuses to give me a refund, or at least a credit towards another Steam game.

I don't have anything against Steam - but I will say that if you had bought the game from GOG, I bet they would have given you a credit for another game or issued you a refund.

I agree, Marian. They advertise it as compatible with XP SP3 or higher.

As a matter of fact, I DO have Win XP SP3, but I guess that's just not good enough, although it "should" be.

I guess the question is - is your video card good enough? This game requires a pretty hefty stand-alone video card.

Drac, I have a NVIDIA GTFORCE GT 430 Video card. That should be enough to be able to run this game------- also 4 gigs of RAM. Thanks for getting back to me.

I got to thinking after I posted that, that I remembered you had a pretty good card. Of course, that does assume that I "remember" anything!
