My update has failed 4 times so far today with the same error code 80240020 so it appears I may have to get into my files and poke around. There is not much out there yet for that error code from what I can find so far. As the upgrade is free for a year I am in no hurry.
It could be as simple as I have it set to download but not install as I am getting messages in the 'action center' to change that setting.
As a side note I was on the Final Fantasy forums (the MMO version FFXIV) and was reading some are having issues with playing after the update. The game seems to crash but does not really crash (video stops and either a black screen or just freezes on the screen while the rest of the game keeps going on just fine - aka sound keeps going) and others saying lower performance issues especially with NVidia GTX series cards. I think this is most likely due to not updating the drivers to be honest but it could be something else.
An update to the update! There is an answer on the Microsoft forums now:
"This is an expected error message if the upgrade will require the user to perform some action. For example, the message may be present if one or more applications or disk utilities need to be uninstalled before upgrading. PCs seeing this error message will get instructions on how to fix this when they perform the upgrade. We recommend waiting until your PC receives a notification to upgrade and then following the instructions provided."
