Hi Guys,

I am having difficulty with the dowel, I put the broken dowel next to the ruler and notice that I have another broken dowel in my inventory, and I can't get rid of it, and not only that I can't get a new dowel next to the machine, and can't use the machine neither, It won't let me get near it. What is going on. I read a walkthrough to put he broken dowel to measure next to the ruler and I did, then get a new dowel next to the machine, but can't get near it, their is no cursor allowing me to get near it, and I need to use the goggles and I see it hanging there but can't get my hands on it. I have done everything else I suppose to do, but nothing mad

Don't know what to do next. someone help me please.

Liz

Hi Liz,

For you to use the machine, Nancy has to ask Elliot permission to do so. I also got a broken dowel in inventory when it was not the proper time to use it. Best to go back to a saved game and try to get Elliot's permission first. wave

I had the same problem Liz. I put the dowel down next to the ruler but I could never get close to the machine or the box of horsetails.

I finally revisited the carousel and looked at everything there...the note, organ and innards of the organ. When I went back to the lathe I was able to move on in the game. Maybe this will work for you too.

Hi MaG, we posted at the same time lol

I couldn't ever get Elliot to give me permission. For some reason I got a new comment from Nancy after revisiting the carousel and I could then use the lathe in Elliot's office.

Hi Burpee,
Glad to have you help. Keep it up, sweet. wave
The first time, I managed to do it when Elliot disappeared and on a replay I got Elliot's permission.

This is a weird one--it looks as though everyone has had a different experience! I put the broken dowel down by the ruler as soon as I got it, and I was never able to get the lathe to work. Finally had to resort to a saved game and go through that part of the game again...

That IS strange. I had never gotten stuck there, so I must have done all the correct triggers without realizing which ones were critical to the lathe puzzle. Ignorance is bliss, LOL

Jenny, did you happen to revisit the carousel after putting the dowel down? As soon as I got the dowel, I went to Elliot's but couldn't get permission or the lathe to work. I was none too happy thinking that I had to restart from an old save. I'm glad that I got it work my way smile

I went everyplace!!!! And talked to everyone--nothing triggered the scene. And what made me really want to smash my monitor was that when I went back to my last save, I had to repeat the Barnacle game... <img border="0" alt="cry" title="" src="graemlins/cry.gif" />

Oh Boy, the last time I saved was at the beginning of the game, and have done to many things from there on. I really don't want to start over, especially, with the arcade games, it took me a while to win those games. I kept going back to other places and do other stuff to see if I could get the machine to work. I didn't know I needed permission from Elliot to work the machine.

Everytime I went to Elliot's and try to talk to him I couldn't, Nancy would say, that she let him work. I will try your suggestions to see if I could get Elliot to give me permission to use the machine. Oh burpee I hope it works for me as well. Would hate to start this game over. I should of saved while I was accomplishing things.
I got so involved in the game that I never stopped to save.

Wish me luck. Let you know if I get that machine working.

Thanks Guys. Liz

Thanks Jenny, but there will be no need. I went back to where I left off and went to see Elliot and got permission to use the machine. I guess I needed a day to come back to ask. Isn't that funny bravo

Good work, Liz! Did you realize that you can make two cuts, to have the dowel even skinnier? I had some trouble with that, and also with the placement of the cut on the right--check out those two things ...

After 6 trys in carving the dowel right. I finally got it right. Went back and put it in and the role, listen to notes, wrote them down, which I had to do a few times cause my eye balls didn't move that fast, but got it. After everything else was done.

Finally Finished the game..... I found this Nancy Drew a little short...it only took me two days to finish.

Of to play another game. Which one don't know yet.

Thanks guys for all your help.

Liz wave
