There have been some great games that have given a veteram PC-gamer like me some mighty big scares. Going all the way back to "AMber:Journeys Beyond" (a classic that I wish GOG would get up and running!). But the new gem I just purchased the other night on GOG: "Layers of Fear"....WOW. It's not only strikingly ,hauntingly beautiful...but there are so many moments of dread and artfully crafted, deliciously nasty environments. A non-stop treat for the eyes. And yes, the gaming experience was even better once I actually turned the lights off in my computer room. Holy cow, what a scary game. THe voice acting (what little there is) is spot-on. THe music score and scored undertones are superb. And...did I mention the environments? Jaw-dropping, traversing inside an old mansion(?) with seemingly never-ending,constantly twisting, turning and frightening visuals behind each door. Each painting on the walls makes you feel you are being watched. And not to give away any spoilers....but GHOSTS! OK, I've said enough. Allright...one more...WAIT 'till you get in the child's room. Just WAIT... Honestly, the only (minor) dissapointment is that you cannot save at will. The game has checkpoints, but they're functional. I honestly cannot remember ever being drawn into a game as much , and being affected to this degree. I hope the developers somehow read this post. I've been playing PC games for decades...and this one is the scariest, and the best experience I've had with a game in this genre thus far. Do NOT wait...go out and plop down the $20 on GOG for this game. You will NOT be dissapointed! Rob NYC

Like robedits I am completly mesmerised by this game. My style of game. Art, music, tension, horror in a phsychological way, very imaginative visually. Best game I have played in a longest time. I have finished it and am completly lost.I want more.

I'm playing now and maybe I'm missing something, but so far all I've done is walk from room to room to room to room. Occasionally I pick up a key to give access to another room. Sometimes I read notes. And now and then there's a spooky sound and I get stuff thrown at me. Is there more to this game that I haven't discovered yet??? What am I supposed to be working toward?

looney, I did come to appreciate the environment. Some serious imagination went into creating this game. I loved waiting to see what I was going to see in the next room. But, no I didn't think it was scary at all. The sound track was awesome, but sadly I lost sound towards the end. I tend to like games with more puzzles and putting clues together. This felt more like an interactive movie, so not really what I like in a game.

I played that game with all the light on and no earphone otherwise I thing I would of have a seizure. It is a game with not many puzzle witch I preferred. I dislike to many puzzle but like clues puzzle. You have to completly engulfe yourself into the environement, enter the house, like you would live there, gosh I am scare just thinking about it. With The music it make my hair stand on end. I love the atmosphere of loneliness, anxiety and horror the house project (or we create) and this one if even beter then scratches witch I love too. The house if alive.
