Finally, the day horror fans have been waiting for has arrived! Layers of Fear has left Early Access/Game Preview and is available right now.

Aspyr Media and developer Bloober Team are very proud to unleash their landmark horror title, Layers of Fear, now available to players around the world on PC and consoles. To commemorate this haunting occasion, we’re unveiling the game’s launch trailer [download link], and Bloober Team has put together a brief letter to fans and media:

We would like to take this opportunity and thank all of our fans and the media who covered Layers of Fear prior to its full release. The abundance of your comments, constructive critique, ideas and general feedback greatly influenced the final product. Without you Layers of Fear would have been a different game, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time and having the will to help us shape this Masterpiece of Fear.

The title “Layers of Fear” was obliging for us – we developed the game with different layers in mind that would slowly reveal themselves to a patient player. It’s not just another horror on the market; Layers of Fear is a kind of personal journey, a unique experience for everyone willing to play it. If you think you have discovered everything that is there to see in the game, then you are probably wrong. Here each and every element serves a purpose – not only to push the plot forward but to help you discover something about you as a person. We know it sounds a little pompous, but believe us when we say that if you take the time to reflect on what’s happening around you it will be the biggest reward you will get from playing the game.

You have probably read the first reviews that hit the web this week, and you may have noticed a discrepancy between them. While a number of reviewers have given the game perfect marks, there are also a few dissenting opinions. We don’t want to start a discussion on who is right or wrong here; what you need to take from this is that Layers of Fear is a game which you either love or hate. The game has been tailored to be a unique experience for everyone, and nothing will be perfect for everyone.

Is this an adventure game or survival horror?

It's a horror adventure. THere are lots of great reviews on Steam describing it. It is a "jump scare" kind of game though, so be aware if you aren't a fan of that.
