Wow - I really a long ways behind all you guys! I am in Haven and at the shipwreck. There is a crank which pulls a box up and a lever. Is there something that I need to do here? Thanks for any help you can give me.

GeeGee: If you mess around with the objects near your current location for a bit, you should be able to find a way to cross onto the shipwreck. There are a couple of things you should do there before exploring much further.


katie: I think what you're trying to do is unlock a door that you can use later to avoid having to go through the bookcase again.

When you came through the bookcase, there should have been (as I recall) a green door to one side leading to Catherine's study. There's also another door that you can reach. This door is locked, but you can unlock it by pulling a small lever on the door. If you then go through it, you'll be back in the power room (the one from which you first got the power running again).

This door used to be locked, but now you can go through it whenever you wish, making an easy way to get back to Serenia.

When I played, the book for Serenia seemed to move after being accessed once. At first it was on the ground outside Catherine's room, but afterwards it was always in Catherine's study. I'm not entirely sure why.

I don't recall another door in Catherine's study other than the entrance.

Have explored around the shipwreck further. Discovered that the cannon balls can be moved. Tried moving all of them into crate and tried to crank it up, but too heavy. So removed one and then it went up. Also found a movable box inside where the crank wheel is. Moved it over and put all the cannon balls into it. Then I cranked the box up. It won't stay up though when I move out. What must I do now? Thanks again for all the help here.

Katielou, I am not sure how you got there, or where you heard that you need to go to Atrus' study.

The problem we have sometimes is with terminology. Generally we agree that the room with the fireflies in the aquarium is Catherine's study. Atrus' study is on the other side of that door next to the firefly aquarium, but you can't get thru that door until you first unlock it from the other side. It's interesting to see Atrus' study, but it is not necessary to finish the game.

So, we need a little more info from you in order to advise.

Serenia should still be accessible from the book on the dock under Yeesha's room.

GeeGee, the box must have the right number of cannonballs in it to allow the lift to go up (remember to crank the rope each time you try). Then, when at the top you push the box off of the lift and it raises an access bridge to the shipwreck. Enter the shipwreck and explore. Lot's to see and learn!

this is according to the myst iv prima guide. after i rubbed the ring on the "snake" & poked him in the face he slithered off. then i touched the lever & i went flying to the cove with the linking chamber. inside was the linking book to serenia. i touched it & went there. after i got there i got out, the fireplace elevator to atrius & catherine's bedroom. did everything there i was suppose to do,went out on the balcony, took the elevator, set the lever to the center position, went thru the garden, then into catherine's study & read her journal. that's where i am now. according to the prima guide, there's a door nearby that goes into the sunroom & into atrius's study.

Ah. katie, the door in that room is locked and needs to be unlocked from elsewhere. You'll want to explore the other buildings in the area and solve a puzzle or two to get there.

Spire-slider-tuning-crystals:
O.K., I'll take the award for most dense. Have read each post re this puzzle at least 3 times. Since I can't get any crystal to vibrate in the slightest, am I in the right place to begin with?
In the spider chair, gears have been positioned, have gone up one level from the gears to a "console" that has in the center, 4 circles with a crystal in each. There are 3 antennae like thingys with 12 green circles around each between the 4 circles with crystals with two each of the four circles on either side of the 3 antennae array. Is this where I am supposed to be sliding the 6-12-4 etc. positions on the green circles of any one of the antennae? I can understand that I am missing accuracy on this and not winning but, after numerous tries, shouldn't I get some kind of movement out of any of those crystals inside the 4 circles?

edit: you can go in the sequence of 1-2-3, 3-2-1, 1-2-3, 3-2-1 hitting the antennae? I believe I am in the right spot doing the right thing, its just reading somewhere that when you got close to the right positioning, the crystals shake. Mine surely ain't shaking!!!!

OK, Katielou. Now I've got it.

Demo is right, you have to unlock that door from the other side to get to Atrus' study. You don't NEED to go there, but it is a nice place to explore.

The linking book you used in Haven brought you back to Tomahna, not Serenia. Tomahna is where you started the game, as you know.

To get to Serenia, you have to go to the dock under Yeesha's room. That is where you'll find the Serenia book. After you first link in Serenia, you'll see a link book on the ground that will take you right back to Atrus' study in Tomahna. Then you can permanently unlock that door in Catherine's study so you can go back and forth. After you have explored Atrus' study, there is a link book there to take you back again to Serenia and work on that Age.

JoanieS- This happened to me. It was because my gears were incorrectly set. The gears start out in the number 1 position. I thought they started at zero but they don't. Reset your gears and start counting again from 1.

Geez! I have tried and tried to get into the shipwreck. Got the platform to go up but can't get over onto the ship! Help me please! Thanks for your help here.

GeeGee, Are you in Haven? Push the box with the cannonballs off of the elevator and a walkway will rise up.

TLC - Did push the box off the elevator and the walkway appears - but can't go over to the ship - there is a gap.

Were there cannonballs in the box? You need 2 in there.

Pretty sure about the balls in the box. Will check the number and get back to you. Thx.

Well - that didn't work. There are 2 boxes, one outside and I have 2 balls in it, and the one that can be moved - I put 2 balls in it as well. But still can't get onto the ship! How frustrating! I'm sure the answer must be quite simple - feel so stupid not to be able to do this. Hope you can give me more help once again

GeeGee, I think I put 3 in the box to the left of the elevator.

Well that didn't work either. Here's what I did - put 3 balls in box to left of elevator, 2 balls in box in elevator. Turn wheel to raise box outside elevator, turn and push box on elevator off, then pull lever. The elevator goes up. But when I go towards the ship, can only go one step forward. There is a section of the boardwalk missing here. What could be the problem here? Sure hope you can tell me what I should be doing. Many thx for your efforts helping me here.

Halleluha!! It worked finally! I had kept the box in the elevator before and pulled the lever, but nothing happened. Many thanks for helping me here. Will carry on until I get stuck again. Sure hope a complete walkthrough is done soon though.

Not very much to do on the ship that I could find. I saw a big bird creature. Raised the flag and took picture of it. Went down rope ladder and took picture of small cloth with butterflies on it, and used necklace on animal statue. That's all I could do. Is that it?

No - saw book on table but the hand did not indicate I could do something with it. Also saw chest, but couldn't do anything with it either. So where is the journal?
