The game installs and is activated but it will not launch on Win 10. Anyone else have this problem? Wondering if the game that is being offered on BF site currently will work. Thanks for your help.

I am assuming you got the game from Big Fish? I am seeing quite a few posts in the technical forum for the game where Windows 10 users are saying they can't get the game to launch and run properly. I have no idea if there will be a fix for this or if there is a solution to the problem.

If you got the game from Big Fish, I would write to Customer Support. They may not be able to help you get the game running, but I am sure they would give you a code for a different CE instead if they cannot.

I googled the problem, and another site that sells the game says that it is not compatible with Windows 10.

The version of Dire Grove listed on Big Fish at

does not list Windows 10. That may just mean they haven't got around to testing it.

Have you tried running the exe using compatibility mode?
You will have to set your File Options to display hidden files and folders in order to see the game exe because Big Fish makes it a hidden file.

I'd still try the version you have with compatibility mode.

I would like to think that there might be a workaround for this problem that no one has figured out yet.

I own this game and just checked. It was already installed on my Windows 10 system, but it will not launch on mine either.

I tried the .exe file and the Troubleshooting option to allow me to run compatibility mode is not availabe.

Does the compatibility tab not show up when you right-click the "hidden" game exe and choose Properties?

I went back and tried again - I had mistakenly clicked on the "launch" file. When I right clicked on the correct application file, I got the compatibility trouble shooter. I let it pick the compatibility mode and then the game launched just fine.

Go to your Program Files x86 and find the game folder. Open it and right click on the application file and the select Troubleshoot Compatibility and follow the prompts.

EDIT: Well, that didn't work either. When I went back to run the program from the game icon, it wouldn't work. And when I tried the Troubleshooter, it wouldn't work the second time.

Well, that's odd.

I'm going to uninstall the game and redownload and install and see if I can't recreate the compatibility troubleshooting that worked - albeit momentarily. One thing I notices is that the application file was renamed to MCF6 and then compatibility stopped working. When I let compatibility do it's thing, it chose the Vista OS. I'll post back and let you know what happens.

I have dozens of games from BFG, some already installed when I did the upgrade and many that I've downloaded and installed since then. This is the first one that has issues. I'd be curious to know just what it is in Windows 10 that causes that particular game to be incompatible.

Maybe Big Fish isn't able to fix the problem.
Most of the game series originally created by Big Fish Studios have been farmed out overseas in recent years. They may no longer have the manpower to fix problems like this.

EDIT: Well, I have no way to explain this. I uninstalled the game - did not do anything else - downloaded and reinstalled. Game started up right away and I played and exited twice, each time with no problems.

I wasn't so lucky, compatibility mode does not help the situation; not on Vista, XP, Win 7 nor Win 8. Neither does uninstalling and reinstalling. Maybe the version of Win 10 has something to do with it and that is why you can run it It is too bad that such a good game has to be trashed. Love BF. They are good on giving you free games, but not that good on fixing problems with games. Thanks everybody for your help.

Might also have to do with immature video drivers and Windows 10 forcing them on you just because they're "newer."

I do have my Windows 10 set to NOT get any driver updates from Windows 10. I only update my Nvidia video card from Nvidia.

How do you do that? I have the "notify me for restart" set, and NOT to install other MS products during update. Is that enough?

That's not the same thing.
"Other MS products" may mean things like updates for MS Office, but Office updates aren't the same as drivers.

Before you uninstall your current driver, be sure you have a better driver downloaded to replace it.

No, it's not the same thing. Thanks for the links. I've set it to NOT receive updates. I have a nvidia GT 630, driver version 368.22 on Win 10 Home Edition upgraded from Win 7. Game still not working. I've been on Dire Grove blogs and it seems it's a mixed bag. Frustrating!

Maybe Draclvr can tell us what version of the Nvidia drivers are working for her with this game.

Not receiving driver updates when your current driver version isn't working won't help anything. You need to install the working version before you see improvement.

Driver was 358.91 from about 6 months ago. I am updating today to 368.39.

Does the new driver work with Dire Grove?
Or should Bru27 go back to the old 358.91 driver?

I started the game this morning for my grandson and it's working just fine with the new driver.

It perplexes me that I had the same issues with it launching a box to the taskbar with nothing but the game icon and an "X" to close the box, had a brief success with compatibility set to Vista using the "test" button, then back to the same thing when I tried to launch from the game icon or from the .exe file in the game folder. But when I uninstalled, redownloaded and reinstalled, the game worked without even using compatibility. My old game saves and profile were there of course. Puzzling...
